Good start.

America is hit with germ warfare and millions die. Ella Strong is one of the survivours, and along with her sister and some others she meets along the way, she sets out to get to her uncles farm, a safe haven for her and her sister.

I enjoyed this for the most part, but there were a few things I struggled with. I found parts of the plot to be.... hard to believe. Some of them are spoilers so I won't discuss them here but one part was where one of the secret service men put on a gas mask and runs away from Air Force One. The plane takes off and then crashes. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think that if that happened, the other SS would be worried and double check the plane. There were other things I just found hard to believe which stopped me from totally loving it.

I liked Ella, she was well written and developed and easy to connect with. I liked that we get to see her when she's older! She is telling this story to a reporter so we get a back and forth timeline. The rest of the characters were well written too, which is the main reason I kept reading.

In all, this was a good start, and I am eager to read the next one to see what happens!

Becket Royce read this well. She was clear and easy to listen to and gave a good performance. The only thing was that her tones for some characters were very similar and it was easy to lose track of who was talking.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

A good read

This is a well crafted story with a good variety of characters that will entertain most listeners.

A good performance by the Narrator makes the Audio Book an entertaining experience.

Chris Pike always has a genius way of writing!

This book is a little different than I’m used to with Chris Pike but still a great book. The story was intriguing and I can’t wait for the second book now. I’ve never listened to a book narrated by Becket Royce before and I have to say she did an excellent job. I usually do my book searches on Audible by searching for Kevin Pearce which is how I found Chris Pike and it was just a bonus that Chris is a Carolina Girl to boot. I’ll have to keep an eye out for books narrated by Becket Royce as well as by Kevin Pearce. Thank you all for the great work.

As the world burns

Ella was just a typical teenage girl going through life when a biological attack decimates the United States. With her sister, she struggles to survive the fallout of the attack and find a new sense of normalcy. I loved the characters in the story and the growth they had and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. The narrator was spot on with the accents and was a real plus to this book.

stand your ground

Descent read. Was it over the top as in the description? Not so much but the story line was good. Will probably pick up the next in the series.

So-So For Me

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of Stand Your Ground, by Chris Pike and narrated by Becket Royce. The book started out okay. Character development was fair; the plot was slightly different and interesting. It just didn’t grab my attention like other books in this genre. This may be because of me being too critical of the actions of the characters. It wasn’t a bad story, just not a great story in my opinion. It is the first time I have listened to a narration by Becket Royce and she did a very good job with reading the story.

A creative SHTF novel with a twist...

Chris Pike did an amazing job, the details in character and storyline development are fantastic. The development of creatures caused by a reaction from the attack, adds another edge of creativity. I'll be honest and say that this novel didn't grab me as much as his previous series (which I'm a huge fan of), but I'm still interested to see where it goes from here.

Becket Royce did a great job in her performance, I think she did an excellent portrayal of the characters and really brought them to life.

A Good read / listen

Stand Your Ground: American Strong Series.. I know it's the first of a series and biuld up can be everything But I found the book to be slow and by the end I felt as if nothing had happened (there was action) but the style of writing made it seem longwinded. I'm really torn about this series - I think I'll read book 2 in the hopes that it develops.

Becket Royce's performance is outstanding by her efforts I was able to finish the book, listening to her narration was like sitting there listening to Ella so believable.

Skeptical at first

one look at the cover and i was ready to not pick it up. It has this generic picture of an eagle and a flag. But once the story kicks in and plot gets going the story is really engaging. Just wish the cover wasn't so bad.
