Publisher's Summary

From the best-selling author Peter Meredith: Sprite

Her name is Odd. Twelve-year-old Audrey Wyatt bears the unfortunate nickname "Odd", a name even her bar-hopping, alcoholic mother uses when she's sober enough to recognize the girl. Cowed by life, Odd doesn't protest, not when she's deformed as she is.

Born with a combination of rare birth defects, Odd's eyes are a startling and dreadful red. Demon eyes is the first thought that springs to mind. The little girl takes care to hide them behind dark sunglasses, something her mother insists on, except when she's trading freak-show peeks for dollars or drinks. A practice that is a nightly torture for Odd.

Yet when her mother abandons her, Odd discovers that loneliness and fear of the unknown are far worse than being a freak. Desperate for the least love, and without a cent to her name, the girl with red eyes begins a quest through the American underclass that takes her halfway across the country. Odd thinks her adventure is a search for her mother, but in truth it's a journey into the soul of humanity, where she discovers along the way everything that is both ugly and beautiful in each of us.

Wonderful

This books was a roller coaster but a good one! Very engaging and the narration was easy to listen to as well. I especially enjoyed listening to a book that highlights and brings awareness to what life is like for troubled youth.

Heartbreaking and Brilliantly Performed

This is the best book I've listened to in ages! The characters were compelling, and the narrator had a completely distinct voice and character for each one. She is one of the best narrators I've ever heard, and I listen to a lot of books. She is so easy and relaxing to listen to. I had no problem focusing on this well woven tale of a young misfit's journey. Well done! I will check out more books by this author and this performer!

AMAZING!! MUST READ.

All I can say after listening to this is ... WOW. So powerful! So relevant! Such a warm, sad, tragic but wonderful story. Beautifully written by one of my FAVORITE authors, Peter Meredith! He has so many great books out! I highly recommend this one, it's something everyone should read, feel, experience.
Masterful Job! Narration was great also, really enjoyed the entire experience.
I can't say enough good things about this book. Get it! :)

Peter Meredith is just ASTOUNDING!

Sprite was one rollercoaster of emotion after another! I was enthralled the entire time. This tale sheds a whole lot of light on the atrocities that befall children and young adults who dont have a safe healthy place to call home. Peter really outdid himself on this one.❤❤❤❤❤

Sprite

I don’t usually read books like this but I was beyond pleasantly surprised. This book has so many depths to it. It had me on the edge of my seat!! I could relate to a lot things in this story so I might be considered biased but even so I know there are tons of people that don’t even realize this actually does happen more frequently than most think. Thank you Peter Meredith for writing this book. I laughed I cried and I love the entire book!!

poorly written amazingly performed

The narrator did amazing bringing this awkward lackluster story shine. You can tell the author has no experience with diverse writing and all ethnic characters come across as rather gross caricatures and it stretches disbelief for me and the ending is sadly unfulfilling and the story suffers from flat one note characters and inconsistent personality

This book will make you cry.

This book was hard for me to listen to. I was sad and angry so many times in this book and I had hope so many times. I started to read this book because of the jelly Bean books. I fell in love with that little girl in the story so quickly and I fell in love with Sprite so quickly.
this author makes you fall in love with all of the characters so easily despise the antagonist so fast and so deeply. I am one of those that had a hard time with the ending having grown in the system I know the likelihood of her ending.

Wonderful, heart-wrenching and life affirming

I loved this book - Odd’s character shines through and makes the unbearable life she leads, not only bearable but beautiful. This book will stay with me for a long time. Thank you for bringing her to life.

Disappointed

I’m such a Peter Meredith fan but this novel was very disappointing. Although I (as always) loved the rich characters and mostly the plot line, I was left wondering what was missing.
Meredith fans will either love or hate this novel, I’m left feeling a great plot wasn’t fully explored.
Bit of a big bummer for me :(

Give this man a beer!!!!

What an outstanding summary of what we all know is a reality for a horrible percentage of the 7.5 billion people on this planet. Not one person should live even in the realm of what is portrayed in this book - how in the name of all that is good will we ever get there. Great book I cried at the end and I am a dude who does not cry. Even though I believe I have a real world understanding of many of the themes outlined I think the book is written in a way that will capture and educate those of us who don’t. A perfect cross over of fiction and non fiction that can educate and entertain at the same time.
