Publisher's Summary

As her beloved city of Richmond is transformed into a deadly Civil War battlefield, spirited Carrie Cromwell puts her medical skills to work in a Confederate hospital. While she fights to save unknown soldiers, the one she cares about the most is lost to her when Robert disappears in battle. She must also deal with a family secret that has finally come to light.

Meanwhile, Rose and Moses have found freedom at last - only to be separated by war. Can Moses, now a Union spy, elude those who are searching for him as a runaway slave, and also help those he thought he would never see again?

Rose, inspired by a revolutionary young speaker, becomes a teacher in the contraband camps.

The third book of The Bregdan Chronicles historical fiction series will pull you in and never let you go. You'll experience the Civil War era (and all the years to come) through the eyes of both White and Black, free and slave, Southern and Northern - and you'll fall in love with every character.

Great reading and listening.

Loved everything it. Narration was awesome, as was the story. The author has made history come alive! Three books down, 15 (so far) to go!

Characters feel like family

Narration is fabulous. Between the narration and the book's content, you feel like all the characters are like family and close friends. I like how the story gives everyone's viewpoint about the Civil War and how they struggle and come to terms with their feelings.

Timely

I hesitate to write here since my words are not worthy. I have really enjoyed this third book of the Bregdan Chronicles. A vivid view of 1862 of the American Civil War, Dye does a wonderful job of taking you along in this time. The character seem true to depicting humanity and the struggle of finding oneself in desperate times. I look forward to continue the saga of these characters.

This book seemed to drag in some areas. I am however loving this series! I feel like I am right in the middle of Carrie’s life ! Feeling the pain, despair, love and gratitude that her life is giving her! I am now ready to start Book 4!

The story is good, the singing however…

The ongoing use of weather as a background continues to entertain me. I’m never sure if Ginny is a weather nerd, or if she has heard that weather affected Civil War battles but has no idea how to convey that, as her storytelling deals primarily with life-events away from the battlefield.
The characters continue to develop as expected. Carrie’s desire to be a doctor, Robert’s enlightenment that slavery is bad, Moses & Rose blossom in their freedom. Carrie’s father remains as a minor character.
I enjoy the stories and plan to listen to the series.
