Story
It's been several years since Jess and Hannah Ballard foiled a cataclysmic prophecy that could have destroyed their fellow Durupinen, an ancient clan of women who allow spirits to cross between the worlds of the living and the dead. The girls swore, after the devastation and chaos they endured, they would never get caught up in the inner workings of the Durupinen again. They were wrong.

Story
Renowned sculptor Allison Weathers doesn’t believe in ghosts. But when a tragic twist of fate leads her to the small mountain town of Dawson Mills, Tennessee, she soon learns that the dead don't always stay silent. Shadows begin to shift in the rambling, old Victorian farmhouse she’s purchased. Voices come from nowhere. She can feel the eyes on her. Paul Bradford, a contractor who is bidding the renovation work on the house, believes it’s more than just Allison’s imagination conjuring up the paranormal activity. Toni Harper, a reporter for the local paper, concurs.

Publisher's Summary
Two sisters, haunted by more than their past...
Just weeks after discovering each other’s existence, Jess and Hannah Ballard arrive at Fairhaven Hall, where they will learn the clandestine ways of the Durupinen, an ancient sect of women who control the Gateways between the worlds of the living and the dead. Though they are considered outcasts by most of their classmates, Jess and Hannah are determined to learn what they can to fulfill their responsibility to the many ghosts that haunt them. But danger, it seems, has followed them as closely as a shadow to their new home, and they have more questions than ever.
Who is the desperate child spirit pursuing Jess, and what do her terrifying visions mean? What has happened to Dr. David Pierce, Jess’ friend and mentor, who has suddenly and mysteriously vanished? And just what is it about Hannah’s unique abilities that has the other Durupinen frightened of her?
The Ballard sisters are about to find out, and the answers could destroy their newfound life before it has even begun. Spirit Prophecy is the second thrilling audiobook installment in E.E. Holmes’ award-winning Gateway Trilogy.

Narration almost ruined the story.
I listened to the first book, in the series. I enjoyed the narration.
The narration, of this book, was very hard to listen and to stay focused on the story.
Many words were mispronounced. The accents and sounds for characters changed repeatedly. It was difficult to know what character was speaking.
I almost stopped the audio, to read it.

Not As Good As The First…
I was REALLY looking forward to this second book in the series & found it disappointedly lacking in not only performance compared to the first but the writing as well.
Besides having a different narrator than the first book who seems to be quite new at the job, the story gives the impression that it’s almost written by someone else. In the first book of the Gateway series Jess is a freshman in college. But now in going across the pond her maturity has slipped to the level of a freshman in high school. Her mood swings are all over the place with her overreactions blowing things out of proportion in my opinion. It doesn’t help that those who run the school seem to look down on all of them treating them like 14 year olds. I mean these are supposed to be 18 & 19 year olds, women not girls! If the author wants to write it like that then it should have been done in the first book. I cringed every time Jess gets furious with Finn for what? I really don’t know. The same with how emotional she gets over a professor was a bit too weird.
The story line is really good & different. I think it’s very creative. I’m just very disappointed with the character development and the storyline didn’t feel like it went through the same standard of editing as the first book.
So I guess I’m saying if you liked the first book just a warning that you shouldn’t expect the same in the second.
Will I get the third book? Yes because it is a good storyline. I just hope it doesn’t seem so rushed & the author puts more faith in her characters as they should grow individually & closer to each other through all these experiences.

Good book.. change the narrator
I have found the story line great but ruined by the narrator attempting to do English & Scottish accents. I found it incredibly irritating & frustrating with the American version of what they think is a typical London accent & a disastrous Scottish accent. I'm not sure whether those two accents had been written phonetically for the narrator.. but its not working. Either just use an accent she can manage or use a different narrator who can do accents!

An anti-climax
Instead of getting better with each book in the series, the quality is falling. These books have a lot of brilliant ideas but no substance to present them. There has been the avoidance of the attraction between 2 of the characters for a long time and when they actually get together is is very disappointing. Its like watching a tv show where things happen but you have no insight into how the characters have actually been feeling, no glances, no excitement. I would say the series would be okay for very young teens but not anyone older.

Great story, not a great recording.
The book is excellent. The further misadventures of two teens thrust into a world of spirits for which they are ill prepared.
The recording, unfortunately, lets it down, the sound quality changes palpably, sometimes mid sentence. I was obliged a couple of times to consult the book in order to understand a word. The volume dips here and there. The English accents are gamely attenpted, and are no worse than Spike and Druscilla on Buffy. It’s not enough to impede and understanding of the text, but it is distracting.
