Exclusively on Audible, hilarious history for ages eight and up.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Listen to the hilarious-but-true adventures of the world’s most amazing spies, document their actions, and most importantly: Do not let the enemy see you laugh.

Here are the dossiers:

  • Hercules Mulligan: Sure he sings about horses and corsets in a certain musical, but in real life he spied under the noses of the British for the entirety of the Revolutionary War - even when they were convinced he was a spy.
  • Josephine Baker used her fame as a singer and dancer to smuggle hundreds of documents past the Nazis and helped numerous Jewish refugees escape Europe.
  • Elizabeth Van Lew operated the largest spy ring for the Union forces - right in the heart of the Confederate capital.
  • The Chevalier d’Eon: This 18th-century French diplomat, soldier, and spy became an international celebrity when she announced that she was a woman who had been forced to masquerade as a man - or was the other way around?

Spies! has it all: secret turnips, infiltrating pigeons, encrypted clothing, milk messages, prison breaks, snooping kitties, grave robbing, hanging monkeys, bumbling Brits, and even original songs.

So grab your miniature cameras and memorize your maps, Spies!: Sneaks, Snoops, and Saboteurs Who Shaped the World will steal its way to your funny bone.

FINALLY- a little well placed humor allows for so much honesty

As an armchair student of world human society and evolution, it’s maddening how ordinary facts plainly seen, will be completely reinvented to cast subjects in a better light. THANKYOU! For telling the story, telling it with grace and dignity, telling it judiciously and with respect, and gracefully walking what is a fine and sensitive line to this day. This should be a grade school extra credit assignment.

I always enjoy these little glimpses into history. The way that they are presented is highly entertaining. I can't wait for the next one.

Jersey!

I love these stories. They are informative and well performed. It is obvious that research has been poured in to all of them. When something is not definitely known they tell you. Enjoy!

Love the choice of spies

My kid and I have listened to every audiobook in this Scott McCormick series. Thankfully this did not have repetitive annoying sound effects like the previous ones, but kept them reined in better.
I loved the choice of spies whose stories were told. I had never heard of the Chevalier d’Eon before, but it was really special for my nonbinary kid to connect with, to see trans people throughout history. We had heard of the rest of the spies, but enjoyed their stories and learned new facts. I especially liked when other spies would chime in with humorous asides, like Mata Hari.

Wonderfully told, little known stories!

I consider myself a history buff, but knew very little about the lives of these incredible individuals. These stories are well selected for their diversity and inclusion and well told. Always enjoy the added humor McCormick sprinkles in. Can’t wait for his next audiobook!!!

Comical! Fun! And yet, the feels

It's by no means dark or sad, and focuses on the whimsical and comical performances to tell a story, but the underlying importance and sacrifice by each of the historical figures covered cannot help but make you feel like you have not done enough to appreciate the life that fought for and built up for you.

So much fun.

Any of the Scott McCormick histories are a must. they're just the right mix of naughty and nice. Didn't care for the change in reader as I like continuity but she did a great job. I just don't like change when I binge listen to all the books.

The Beginning was REALLY Funny!

I liked how the beginning started off funny with King Ramses screaming for his “MUMMY”! There were the funniest examples of poor spies to make history more fun for kids and adults, since I was a History Loving Girl in school, and it was my 2nd best subject I was good at.
