Publisher's summary

Colonel Joe Bishop made a promise and he's going to keep it; taking the captured alien starship Flying Dutchman back out.

He doesn't agree when the UN decides to send almost 70 elite Special Operations troops, hotshot pilots, and scientists with him; the mission is a fool's errand he doesn't expect to ever return from. At least, this time, the Earth is safe, right?

Not so much.

Definitely worth a credit!

I'm a person who enjoys watching Sci-Fi, but im usually disappointed when I read it. This is the 2nd book in the trilogy and the author's style is definitely different, but it's a "good" kind of different! His choice of words and his ability to make me think and feel that it's entirely possible for an object that's shaped like a beer can that's, because it is the most intelligent being in the universe is a testament that the author' is creative and his book is worth listening to.

Not as good as part one

While the story of book 2 wasn't as good as the first one I still had many moments where i had to laugh and enjoyed the book.

Not enough boring minutes to listen...damn it!

Something is wrong when you start missing your commute time so you can listen to this story and enjoy Mr.Brays performance. Damn you Skippy!

Great book, just downloaded the third one that just came out. I love the banter from Skippy and the story is pretty great as well! The third one released today and I can't wait to start listening :)

DIalogue makes up for Clear Filler Book in Series

Would you listen to SpecOps again? Why?

Yes, The dialogue between skippy and Joe is really what makes this series so great. That being said I'm not one who tends to re-read fiction titles, so I doubt I'd listen to it again, maybe before book 3.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Skippy. If you have read the first one you should know.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

SpecOps 2 - Skippy's Journey.

Any additional comments?

I want to be clear. The first book in this series was one of my favorite books, similar in many ways to Legion of Bob. I would say its like a more military like approach and obviously more characters (although in book 2 you don't really care about any besides joe and skippy). I gave this 4 stars because even though basically very little of consequence happens in this book. Yes you learn, basically, that you will learn a lot more about skippy and the entities that created him. The frist book introduced you to a very wide range of characters, different alien races, had many important battles and twists and turns. You cannot read this book if you have not read the 1st it won't make any sense. That being said even though there is VERY little in terms of moving the story forward in ths book, it basically takes what could have been a fantastic novel, and takes it in a different direction. Book one was a setup of the universe, some of the alien races, how their alliances worked, etc. The only characters that really have any impact on this story or that you hear from in this book are Skippy and Joe. Its interesting to me the approach being taken. Book one to me, as stated above could have been a standalone novel. Only the end gives justification for continuing the series. Clearly that is now the focus. I'm totally fine with this, as long as we get answers in the next book. The dialogue is so good, as is the writing and narration, that although this book doesn't have a whole lot that made the first book so multifaceted, it is a lot of fun. The first book had a clear beginning and natural end, this book just ends. Thats why I take off one star.

Too much of the same

The first book set a high bar. This one starts out fine, but the middle and end are weak.
The balance of human cleverness and AI intelligence is tested over and over.
Here’s hoping it’s just getting that out of the way for the rest of the series.

Great repeating story.

Skippy continued to mention how they only have one good idea ever but it turns out the humans always seem to be having the ideas and Skippy can't think of a think for himself and only apply what the humans tell him to apply. just repetitive. still love the books.

Skippy talks too much

That's my only complaint, otherwise a very good read. I can't wait for the rest of this series to be released, best new sci-fi in a while.
