Audie Award Finalist, Inspirational/Faith-Based Non-Fiction, 2014

"There is really no better indicator you're a mother than acquiring the ability to catch throw-up in a plastic bag, disinfect your hands, and immediately ask your friend to pass the beef jerky as you put on another Taylor Swift song and act as if nothing has happened." This is the type of insight Melanie Shankle offers in this quirky memoir of motherhood. Written in the familiar, stream-of-consciousness style of her blog, Big Mama, Sparkly Green Earrings is a heartwarming and hilarious look at motherhood from someone who is still trying to figure it all out.

Filled with personal stories - from the decision to become a mother to the heartbreak of miscarriage and ultimately, to the joy of raising a baby and living to tell about it - Sparkly Green Earrings will make you feel like you're sitting across the table from your best friend. A must-listen for anyone who's ever had a child or even thought about it.

Great book!

Touching, accurate and funny portrayal of the joys and challenges of motherhood. I had read the hard copy book but really enjoyed hearing the stories in Melanie's own voice. Highly recommend!

Transparency at its finest

Good read/listen. Melanie is honest that she doesn't have it all together. Her stories made me appreciate my three boys that much more.

painful to listen to!

Would you try another book from Melanie Shankle and/or Melanie Shankle?

probably not

What was most disappointing about Melanie Shankle’s story?

I go back and forth between the content and her voice. It was like I was listening to someone just sit and drone on about herself. I didn't find a lot, if anything, very unique or useful or entertaining. I hate to be so negative and mean, but it was really hard to listen to! Confessions of a Scary Mommy was so much more enjoyable and entertaining! That's what I was hoping for and expecting with this book.

How could the performance have been better?

Different reader?

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Ummm....I now know to download book samples before buying

Any additional comments?

I wish I could get my money back. I have learned to download samples now.
