Publisher's Summary

Riella Akema is a Pantherian, the rare child of a human and Therian. In her case, her father was an Elderfel, a cat-like humanoid that despises all other races, making her an abomination in their eyes.

The only reason she’s still alive is because her mother sacrificed everything to buy her 18 years of safety in the magically protected forest of the elves.

But now that time has come to an end.

Her birthday present from the elves is her permanent exile. Riella must now face the outside world for the first time, along with the dangers and discrimination that come with it. However, unknown to her, the Elderfel have been waiting all this time for her to reappear. Her life means more to them than a simple mixing of the races. She is more than just an abomination.

Will her magic be enough to defend herself? Or will the Elderfel take her life and steal her soul along with it?

Prologue

Really, I felt like I hadn’t truly been living until now. And I wasn’t about to go back to a life of solitude just to keep this body breathing, while my heart slowly withered away in loneliness. I needed to feel, to be alive, even if it did ultimately lead to an early death.

I looked up at him with renewed determination, only to realize he wasn’t focused on me anymore, and his expression had changed drastically. He had a look in his eyes that I hadn’t seen before, and I hoped to never see it directed at me.

Pure hatred.

I turned around, almost expecting him to be looking at the elf, only to see that all three of them were facing the other way too, swords halfway drawn. I gazed further on, trying to understand what was happening, finally seeing it for myself.

good world/concept.. desperate/needy Mc...

Interesting world and concept... unfortunately the Mc comes off as desperate and needy through most of the book. I think some of it was supposed to be innuendo/romance but it came off pretty rough...

A Sob Story

I have never seen such a sob story in my life. I started out liking the main character, but as the book progressed, I started not caring too much for her plight. TBH, everyone else she came across had a worse story than she did.

Not to sound too down on the main character, but she had first world problems, ok? And yes, some people wanted her dead for a while, but as soon as that went away, she came across like the biggest spoiled brat I have had the pleasure of reading about.

The entire book series may in fact be about her and the story behind her powers, but this book was definitely about her two main companions, who, I might add, are far more interesting than she.

The best way to describe the entire book and the main character is to think of a typical anime schoolgirl trope type who is overly emotional, overly jealousy, completely absent-minded, yet with a heart of gold, that should make us forget all her flaws. Yet, I didn't really care about this character when the book was down, and that says more about the author than it does the book.

It gets 2 stars because it makes elves look like the stuck up, elitist xenophobes we all know they are deep down. Too many books overly glorify elves as some sort of super race, and authors often swing from their nut sacks and bend over backwards to try to explain away their arrogance and elitism. About time they were exposed for the scum they are!

Should have listened to other reviews...

To the reviews that mentioned the main character was too emotional, I should have listened. It was worse than I thought it would be. Emo turned up to 11.

Got 3/4 the way through the book and decided it wasn’t getting any better so gave up on it.

unexpected, enjoyable

I was surprised by the author's choices, how he advanced the plot. refreshing. The characters were enjoyable. Emotion was conveyed well. The Narrators (voice actors?) were excellent.
The sexual aspect of the story was a bit tame, and very little to no cursing. Yet, slavery and forced prostitution are major plot points, so I wonder what the age of the target audience is? Did the publisher meddle, trying to make the story more "safe?"
Whenever the character was indecisive, because of her lack of self worth, we got a long back and forth as she debated with herself. This was repeated far too often, Trust your readers to make assumptions, especially when it is a recurring theme.

good book with good narration

I liked this one. A good fantasy story and with romance that isn't too explicit in case you dislike such books. The small details that are sprinkled in the story about small things really made the world come alive for me. The narrators are awesome as always!

I book was ok but the reader was the best I have heard.

The book is ok.
It has a has a bit too much of the romance novel feel for my personal tastes.
The whole thing about two people that really want to have sex but cannot because of some special reason feels very romance novel to me.
.
The other thing I wanted to mention is just how good the reader is.
She puts so much emotion into the character.

There is no greater love story

This story shows what truly healthy and loving relationships are and how they overcome tragedy. This audiobook utilizes not only great voice acting but also an immersive soundscape~

To those saying the main character is whiny clearly don't understand how a childhood of the entire society around you treating you as a filthy beast can damage you and yet the main character remained strong only expressing her pain publicly when she suddenly finds herself in the midsts of people who truly care for her; a situation that is completely alien to her.

it was enjoyable

I wish this where better reviewed just so I could be certain it would get a 2nd book this has a lot of potential.

The characters are well built and the world is got a lot to explore. that where the book sort of ends, a lot of questions that got of you invested. characters who could grow a lot and really become something.

Sadly it does all this with a up and down emotional ride that turns a lot of people away. So I'll just keep my fingers crossed it will get a second book.

Forget the haters

I’m not big on writing reviews so I’ll keep this short and sweet...

I believe this book was masterfully done, I was able to get into this book as if I was there walking side by side with each character... only part I don’t understand is the mc blue chain power I know I sealed away evil inside her but I know there has to be more to it...

I’m looking forward to the next book and hope it comes out soon cuz I’ve been waiting patiently for a little over a year now lol

Soulbound to a Dragon

This is the first time that I listen to a book by Kurtis Eckstein and I have to say that I enjoyed his work greatly. The world that the author create is wonders it has a split between modern and fantasy .
And with the awesome talents and skills of Annie Ellicott and Jeff Hays who narration makes the characters and world come alive.
This book is a must to listen to and owned
12/10 stars ...
