“Can I kiss you?” It was two months before the world premiere of Juno, and Elliot Page was in his first ever queer bar. The hot summer air hung heavy around him as he looked at her. And then it happened. In front of everyone. A previously unfathomable experience. Here he was on the precipice of discovering himself as a queer person, as a trans person. Getting closer to his desires, his dreams, himself, without the repression he’d carried for so long. But for Elliot, two steps forward had always come with one step back.

Story

Publisher's summary
On a seemingly average December morning, Melissa’s world is turned upside down by a text message that unveils a man’s decade-long admiration for her. This digital domino unleashes an affair that awakens Melissa’s soul and exposes the lack of meaningful connection in her life.
Courage she didn’t know she had forces her to contemplate what REAL love is. In a desperate search for change, she embarks on a journey to rediscover herself and uncover the meaning behind soul mates.
Melissa’s waking moments are filled with a struggle between all that life could be and what her life actually is. When she sleeps, her dreams connect her to something monumental: an omniscient view of a woman living in the 12th century as a young royal, searching for purpose while fighting expectations that conflict with her heart.
Alive with emotion and intention, both women set out on a path of self-discovery. Along the way, they reconcile their pasts with their presents and grapple with life’s hardest questions: Who am I, and who do I truly want to be? In the end, parallel worlds collide as both women choose their own fates.

This remarkable novel begins in 1850s Louisiana, where Gilda escapes slavery and learns about freedom while working in a brothel. After being initiated into eternal life as one who "shares the blood" by two women there, Gilda spends the next 200 years searching for a place to call home. An instant lesbian classic when it was first published in 1991, The Gilda Stories has endured as an auspiciously prescient book in its explorations of blackness, radical ecology, re-definitions of family, and yes, the erotic potential of the vampire story.

Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
Turning the other cheek does not mean standing by while the enemies of God dismantle Christian civilization and brainwash our children. Decrying the cowardice that masquerades as meekness, Eric Metaxas summons the Church to battle. An attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has sapped the spiritual vitality of millions of Americans. Paying lip service to an insipid “evangelism,” they shrink from combating the evils of our time. Metaxas refutes the pernicious lie that fighting evil politicizes Christianity.

Finding One's Soul Mate
Melissa didn’t know just how unhappy she was until she received a text message. The text message was from a man who proclaimed his interest in her and love. That would be fine except they are both married and now, Melissa is having a midlife crisis. Melissa must make a life journey and discover herself, her path, her meaning in life, and what love is worth fighting and living for. To add to the complex story, her search of what a soul mate is, brings her to another woman experiencing a similar fate years ago. Together, they must answer their own questions.
The author, Melissa Yvonne, takes her audience on a journey that is both painful, sensitive, and authentic. Yvonne engages her audience by smacking them hard with reality and the questions one oftentimes finds themselves asking.
The narrator, L. Kennedy, gives a strong performance with unique and versatile voices adding to the character's personality. Kennedy projects the pain, confusion, and other emotions prominently allowing the listener to become immersed.
This book is interesting; it is realistic and hits home for so many of us. Both, Yvonne and Kennedy, give life to a situation we have all experienced or will experience. It is interesting and well worth the lesson it offers.
There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook, it was clear and well produced.
