On Luna inmates are housed in individual pods. There are ten pods to a canister overseen by a warden. The warden reports to a commander who, in turn, reports to a Deputy Director on Earth. Rebecca Fordyce is the warden for Canister 1, a pod of which becomes Sophie’s new residence. Fordyce also becomes romantically involved with the captain of Lunik 2, one of the transporters that carries supplies to the Moon.
Sophie has no privacy in her pod as she is observed 24/7 to prevent any escape plots from forming even though she has not been prone to escape plots in her many other incarcerations.
Unknown to the warden one of the inmates, Sam Needham, has concocted a method for the inmates to communicate with each other. One of those inmates is Jessie Smoot, captured when Space Command battled the pirates under the command of Corey Umschied who dresses like a pirate king. Smoot is the key to Space Command locating Umschied and capturing or destroying the rest of the pirates.
Sophie pairs with Sam Needham, the inventor of the podcast, to devise a potential escape plan.
As the plan progresses, Umschied and his pirates attack the Space Command’s Outpost and breach the penal complex using a clever ruse.
