Fell in love with these characters all over again
- By Cayce on 03-14-14
Publisher's Summary
The Pacific Northwest is home to lush forests and constant rain, to lumberjacks and computer geeks, especially those of the vampire kind.
Sophia, beautiful and deadly, has spent the last 100 years dancing her way through the balmy nights and hot-blooded men of South America. But when her Sire sends an urgent summons, Sophia rushes home to Vancouver only to find he has disappeared, leaving nothing behind but three dead vampires and a letter with Sophia's name on it.
Colin Murphy, a former Navy SEAL, came to the Northwest seeking a quiet place to heal the scars earned in more than a decade at war. But when someone starts killing local vampires and torturing their mates, Colin takes on the mantle of a warrior once again as he sets out to find the killers and do whatever it takes to stop them, even if that means hunting with vampires.
Following her Sire's trail of death to a small town in northern Washington, Sophia unexpectedly discovers the heat of a South American night in Colin's arms. But too soon, Sophia and Colin find themselves in a race to uncover the killers before the next dead vampire becomes Sophia herself.

Awesome Vampire Series!!!
I love this series and each story holds your attention all the way to the conclusion. The characters are well developed and interesting. Although, I was surprised that Sophia seemed more like a secondary character and The vampire Lord Raphael & Cyn were more like the main characters. It worked well though, I really like Raphael and his deep love for his mate.
The narration was excellent and it brought the story to life. Each character was unique and easy to identify.
There is action, suspense, drama, romance, humor, and much more. The story was very interesting and kept me wanting more.
This was an entertaining listen and I can't wait to read/listen to the next book in this series. After the main story wraps up there was a little bit of a cliffhanger where something big is going to happen. But we are not sure what it will be! Just have to find out in the next book!

Finally FEMALE Vampire Lord!
Where does Sophia: Vampires In America (Volume 4) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In the Top 15
What did you like best about this story?
Sophia is the first female Vampire Lord. She has to claim her rightful spot in a world dominated by male vampires. She also has to claim her human who has reappeared in her very long life.
What does Traci Odom bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She has the range that makes differentiation between the characters awesome. She can keep the voices consistent.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not really an extreme reaction. Just satisfaction. Sophia had to work pretty hard to get her man to forgive her. Lucky he loved her so much.

PERFECTION.... ONE OF MY TOP VAMPIRE SERIES
I can't say these books keep getting better because they have ALL been fantastic and so this was another mind blowing visit into the lives and loves of the loveable characters in the Vampires in America series. Although this was called Sophia I did think that Cyn and Raphael stole the show and Sophia seemed to be a secondary character a lot of the time. But I'm not complaining because I love the chemistry that Raphael, the most powerful, respected and charismatic Alpha Vampire Lord and his mate Cyn have and the care and understanding they each have for one another's positions and it shows in their deep love, sensual scenes and the grief and rage Raphael went through when his Cyn was injured (sigh)..... it makes me want to go back and listen to their story again (book 1).
Someone was killing vampires as they slept, Sophia had to go to Raphael's domain on the orders of her missing Sire and that's where she meets again the love of her immortal life Colin a human ex Navy SEAL, Colin the man she could never forget, Colin the man she had to give up, Colin the man she still desperately loves and now she has to work with him to find the threat and 'dispose' of it. But first Colin had been working with Cyn trying to uncover clues, rule out or dig deeper as suspicions grew, puzzle pieces fell into place and then the unthinkable happened.... which brought out and unleashed the true power and unstoppable wrath of Raphael.
What an exciting, gripping and entertaining listen as each well crafted scene played out with drama, humor, passion, sex, danger, intrigue, heartache and thrills that only leaves you panting for more. And, to top it off, Traci Odom's narration brought each individual character to life, injected all the right amount of emotion for each scene and, in doing so, created a perfect listen.
Worth a credit? This was two love stories in one..... a rekindled lost love and a strong, passionate and "if you die I die" love - both had heat, sex and intensity as the evil enemy was slowly being stalked and both were all consuming. This gripping story was told from four POV's and was, IMO, another smoothly written and very creditworthy book by D B Reynolds.

Awesome book awesome series
Where does Sophia: Vampires In America (Volume 4) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I love this series and Sophia is no exception. This story is more about the characters coming together centering on Raphael as the leader but having read all the books I see where Sophia and her mate are important to the overall plot If you like vampires romance don't miss this series ! Looking forward to audible picking up the rest - narrator is great too I can't imagine anyone else speaking for cyn
What other book might you compare Sophia: Vampires In America (Volume 4) to and why?
D b Reynolds writing style is fast paced exciting and funny in places to relieve the tension - I think the author in this genre who is equally entertaining is Dianne Duvall
Have you listened to any of Traci Odom’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes she is awesome and makes the story come alive never get boring - can't imagine anyone else being Cynthia!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Loved it ! Have read twice and listened twice already!
Any additional comments?
Can't wait for Duncan !

D.B. REYNOLDS "ROCKS HARD"
If you could sum up Sophia: Vampires In America (Volume 4) in three words, what would they be?
TIME TO HUNT
What did you like best about this story?
I LOVE THE THRILL OF THE STORY, THE MYSTERY, THE SUSPENSE, THE ADVENTURE, ETC.. HOWEVER....I COULD USE A "LESS" GRAPHIC SEX SCENES - MAYBE 1, MAX 2 AND THE REST COULD BE 'FADE TO BLACK" = 'PLEASE'!!!!
What does Traci Odom bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
TRACI BRINGS YOU INTO THE BOOK, SHE MAKES THE STORY 'REAL'
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
TIME TO HUNT
Any additional comments?
PLEASE - PLEASE - PLEASE TAP "DOWN" THE SEX SCENES - I THINK 1 OR 2 IS ENOUGH THE REST COULD BE "FADE TO BLACK" - IT'S THE STORY THAT KEEPS ME BUYING THE BOOKS - NOT THE GRAPHIC SEX!!!!

Another solid entry into this series
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I started this series with books 5, 6 and 7, and have now gone back to the beginning of the series to catch up. This is my final book in the series narrated by Traci Odom. So, be warned fellow listeners, there is a narrator change in the next book. Don't let that deter you from continuing the series, though. Nick J Russo is a great narrator and, once you get used to him, you'll continue to enjoy the series. Now I need to move on to book 8!

Don't mess with the Vamps.
This was a great story line. When some of the vampires in Raphael's clan are murdered and one vampire's mate is attacked their homes while they sleep, he and Cyn and more of his clan come to Washington to investigate. Also, there have been some killed in the Canadian clan. The vampire lord from this clan sends for Sophia. But when she arrives in Canada, her sire is gone. He left a letter for her to go and contact Raphael. She goes there and while she is there she finds an old lover that turns out to be her mate. Colin in kinda of the local law and was friends with one of the vampires in Raphael;s clan. They all have to work together to find out who and why the vampires are being killed. This is great series and i look forward to more. Yes i see where some people say there was more on the central couple than Sophia that the book was titled. But i loved it. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

Another gripping story
This book continues the story from the first three books. This is definitely a series that needs to be listened to in order, so don't start with this book.
This book continues t follow Cyn and Raphael as well as introducing Sophia and Colin. The story hits the ground running with plenty of twist and turns, and intrigue spotted through. There's a fair bit of focus on Sophia and Colin and there's a decent amount of their history both together and separately included in the story.
The narration is fantastic, the character voices are great with some excellent accents delivered consistently throughout the story. The delivery flows really nicely and keep a good pace. Traci does an excellent job of conveying emotion and I couldn't help but be drawn into the story by her delivery.
This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

If you love vampires, don't miss this series!
First of all, I need to let you know that I was provided with a copy of this audiobook at no charge by the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.
Having said that, I should also tell you that I’ve purchased the prior three books in the "Vampires in America" series over the past year because they are just that good. I will try to be unbiased, but I only thought it fair to tell you that I went into this book thinking I would most likely enjoy it.
I hate spoilers in reviews, and I think the summary on the book page is sufficient, so I’m going to limit myself to what you really need to know. This book is not for you if you like your vampires weak and fluffy, or misogynistic and brutish. D.B. Reynolds’ vampires are all-Alpha: powerful, intelligent, beautiful, strong, possessive, and protective. However, unlike many supernatural heroes and heroines in other books I've listened to lately, these vamps are not egotistical. They're hell on their enemies but aren’t domineering with friends and lovers. They’re persuasive and seductive. They’re wily and cunning, but they don’t have to win every, single disagreement. They are also refreshingly unselfish in bed. It’s clear that when they say they love their lovers, they really mean it. And they are very, very good at it.
If you choose to try 'Sophia', I think you’ll find D.B.’s writing to be both intellectually and emotionally engaging. She sets a good pace, progressively developing both characters and plot. She also does a wonderful job of world-creating. The details she gives are pertinent, but not excessive. Some authors tend to be too light when giving details, while others’ scenes are so heavy that I sometimes feel like I’m slogging through, rather than joining the characters on a romantic adventure.
As far as narrators go, I tend to prefer romance read by men. I know this is not very enlightened of me, but it is true. There are a handful of female narrators who I will buy without hesitation, however, and Traci Odom is one. I like her performance here because her voice flows with D.B’s writing. She reads smoothly and steadily. But even more importantly, when she reads—even when she reads the guys’ lines and POV—I don’t hear a narrator. I only hear the characters. Forgetting she’s even there by the fourth or fifth paragraph, I slip right into the story.
I hope you try this book, and if you do, I truly hope you enjoy it. It’s not necessary for you to read or listen to the first 3 novels in this series ('Raphael', 'Jabril', and 'Rajmund'), but if you love this book, please go back and grab those as well. Many of the characters are re-occurring, and I think you will get even more out of this one when you listen to it again, once you’ve heard the back story.

Rafeal Shines Again
Where does Sophia: Vampires In America (Volume 4) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Very high, probably in the top 25 or so. I have listened to hundreds of auidiobooks.
What other book might you compare Sophia: Vampires In America (Volume 4) to and why?
Lara Adrian, Laurell K Hamilton, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lynsay Sands, Kerrelyn Sparks, and JR Ward. These 6 authors are who got me into reading 10 years ago and they still are going strong with their superb writing skills, able to jump right into the story and never slow down. I have never been disappointed with these authors. For these reasons I now add DB Reynolds to my vampire list.
Which scene was your favorite?
Many favorite scenes but the most memorable scenes were when Cyn got shot and almost died. Rafael's actions and words just made this part great, very moving.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, very, very few books impart these feeling from me. There were no funny spots in the story so maybe a soft smile or two. The gravity of Cyn;s condition made me very sad but not enough to cry.

Political drama and paranormal romance in one
This was an enjoyable book to listen to. I believe it is the forth in the series. And while it is has a HEA, it also has a quasi cliffhanger of sorts in the form of a hint of the book to come. I had no trouble understanding the story, but I suspect it would have been better if I had read/ listened to the previous books first.
That said, the book isn't entirely about vampire Sophia and Colin Murphy. In fact the two don't even meet until over three hours into the narration. There is some political drama and murderous intrigue involved and the focus is tilted more in favour of Raphael, the head vampire parts of the US and his mate Cyn. To be honest, without these two pivotal characters there wouldn't have been much of a story. It makes me wonder if the series is mostly about the developments in their lives while showcasing other important characters around them.
The world that D B Reynolds has created is rather intriguing. It has vampires, vampiric magic/ mojo, plenty of sex, political drama and a social hierarchy that is quite fascinating. Humans aren't entirely beneath them, because these vampires have learned to develop a symbiotic relationship with their food source. And the specially chosen human mates..... ooo la la... don't go messing around with them! All kinds of violence and destruction ensues.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Really good but......
Once again this was a fab story line and good characters but the Heroine's voice was rubbish - poor Sophia sounded like she was trailer trash and not Spanish aristocracy! Still worth a listen!

Great addition to a great series
Not the usual way you think of someone becoming a vampire Lord. Sophia had so many twists and turns in the story that it never at any point became boring or stale. Next is Duncan and I'm really looking forward to his story.
