Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and lush wilds spread across the planet. In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Cassie Forrest isn't surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. After all, she’s been on a self-imposed losing streak since her survivalist parents died: she’s stopped painting, broken off her engagement to Adrian and dated a real jerk. Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents’ cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too.

Publisher's summary
Time seemed to collapse…There was a sharp stabbing sensation in my stomach…Steve crowed, "Now I have you! Now you're gonna die!"
Dead if he loses - damned if he wins. The time has finally come for Darren to face his arch enemy, Steve Leopard, and fight for control of the night. One of them will die. The other will become the Lord of the Shadows …and destroy the world.
Is the future written, or can Darren trick destiny?

Ending - he must have gotten tired
What disappointed you about Sons of Destiny?
There was no real end to the story. It essentially erased everyting up to the point
What could Darren Shan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Had a real ending.
What about Ralph Lister’s performance did you like?
He was very good - all characters were real.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Frustration and disappointment that there was no kind of wrap up - the last couple of paragraphs essentially undid the entire story.

Stop 30 minutes or so before it actually ends.
Immediately after the end of Steve and Darren's confrontation. Turn it off. Do yourself a favor and stop.
Throught the entire series our friend Darren just couldn't figure out what vampires and vampettes were and weren't capable of. Regardless though the story was still very engaging.
In the last half hour or so of this good but terrible book the author accomplished what others have so famously before. Im looking at you lost. He completely neutered the entire plot of his series. Sets everyone up for a huge disappointment.
You know how the the books are typically better than the movies. The movies were canceled and id still rather watch the ONE movie than read this book again.
I usually don't want to be so mean about work like this. I get that as an aspiring writer you fall in love with your characters. Darren seemed to hate his, and us.

Hate the ending
Darren is denied his love interest and the fulfillment of seeing the vampires prosper himself. It could have been written to end more positively for the main character

BEST BOOK SERIES EVERR
I love listening to stories and getting to know the characters but I have never found a book that has actually got me caring or feeling any emotion for the characters, when I found the first book I thought it would be like that but I was so wrong! Every one in the comments are saying that this series sucks or it had a bad ending, I think they need to take a hike because this story is filled with twists, amazing characters, amazing performance from the author, and an amazing ending. This is my favorite book series I have EVER read and I am sad it is over, this was truly an experience, all the haters just can’t take the gore/ screaming, me personally that is my favorite genre so 1000000/10 for me :)

Best book series ever!
I see complaining about the series not having a "happy ending" for Darren but that was the point he made from the beginning, in real life, stories dont always have happy endings. The good guys dont always win. That being said, I'd say getting to go back n be human again, have his family n friends back, and live a normal life is a great ending for him. Ive read/listened to this series about 10 times now, and I will keep rereading them again & again. Darren Shan is an amazing author and his books are full of twists and surprises that no other authors could make work.

le sigh...
I am upset at myself that I did not get through these books years ago. I am a 46-year-old woman and when I tell you I was on the end of my damn seat most of the time it wouldn't be enough to explain how enthralled I was in this story. I cannot wait, hoping with fingers crossed, for there to be a continuation to the story. I need to know what happens to Darren shent. It is ridiculous how much I have become invested in the characters and the story of these novels. kudos on all fronts!

Amazing!
This book brings good closure to the amazing series of Cirque du Freak. The author Darren Shan has kept me interested through out the entire series and has definitely closed on a high note. Ralph Lister has done an outstanding job in narrating the story capturing the personality of each character with unique voicing. Absolutely entertaining and a very good listen for anyone of any age. 5 🌟

Story
My name is Nate Temple, and I’m secretly a wizard. I ride a foul-mouthed unicorn, I drink with Achilles, and I’m pals with the Four Horsemen. I’ve even cow-tipped the Minotaur. I understand the theory of following the rules...I’m just not very good at the application. Because rules were meant to be broken, and St. Louis has a bit of a supernatural infestation these days. Someone should probably be keeping an eye on these things -and probably an eye on me, too. Before I blow up another building...or three.
