Publisher's Summary

In the second novel in New York Times best-selling author Stephanie Dray's thrilling trilogy, Cleopatra's daughter seeks the power to stand against an empire....

Having survived her perilous childhood as a royal captive of Rome, Selene has pledged her loyalty to Emperor Augustus, swearing to become his very own Cleopatra. But even though she is forced to marry a man of the emperor's choosing, Selene will not allow her new husband to rule in her name. Quickly establishing herself as a capable leader, she wins the love of her new subjects and makes herself vital to Rome by bringing forth bountiful harvests with the magic of Isis flowing through her veins.

As she rules the kingdom of Mauretania and contends with imperial politics and religious persecution, Selene beguiles her way to the precipice of power with the ultimate goal of taking back her birthright. But the price of winning back her mother's Egyptian throne may be more than she's willing to pay.

Love this series, but...

Just finishing the last book and, generally, have LOVED this series and this author. One concern that will dictate future buys from this author. This book, book two, inched too close to scripted soft porn for my comfort level in one encounter. Sexual encounters shouldn't be described in such detail for the masses, like me, who consider them to be a more private matter! It takes a great book and lowers it to a more base standard.

Ready for it to be over

After listening to Cleopatra’s Daughter by Michelle Moran, I wanted more to the story. I thought this book would be a great continuation to the story, but I am not happy with it at all. Based on lectures I’ve heard, it seems more inaccurate to history, that and the magic in the book feels very pediatric. Probably a better book for teens.

Too much magic

The narrator is great but the book is hard to get into. I love historical fiction but when the fiction becomes more like fantasy I can’t suspend belief enough to get into the book. I’m disappointed and probably won’t finish reading, I just can’t get past all of the magic.

Good read, but frustrating to stomach at times

This one was harder for me than the first and third book in the series. I know this is because of the details of Selene's relationship with Augustus. It was hard to watch Cleopatra Selene's ambition to return to her throne, despite what it may cost her. That said, it followed the first book well and was a pre-curser of what was to come in the third book. I like the details the author includes in describing everything, but Augustus was such a wretched character that admittedly, it was hard to stomach at times. The book was good, but the circumstances were hard.

Brings the Cleopatras and Cesar’s to life

I enjoyed both this book and the first book in the series. The characters are convincing and the magic of the worship of Isis , and it’s numinous and transformative power comes to life.

terrible face reality

I couldn't listen anymore, I am soooo tired of these characters in Ancient Egypt with fair skin, blue eyes, and blond hair.
Was suntan lotion invented to protect these fair people?
It would be nice to read a historical novel that portrays the characters as they were

Riveting

I couldn’t put it down. I randomly found this author and dove head long into the series. The history of it all keeps you intrigued. It definitely made me want to learn more about the actual people named in the book.

I loved it!

I loved the way the author paints such a clear picture of the characters, especially Selene. She painted a clear beautiful picture for me to enjoy!
