Great Listen/Read

I really love Shari Lapena’s novels. They always surprise me. This is her 4th novel and I was really excited for it as I truly was shocked at the ending of her 3rd. This one surprised me but not as much as the last. I ended up having the ending half right. It seemed to also end on a cliffhanger which I wasn’t expecting. So hopefully there will maybe be a second book coming. Or maybe it’s just supposed to be open to interpretation. Either way, I really enjoyed the book and I can’t wait to see what she does next. The narrator was also very good!

Good purchase

This one kept my interest much more than a lot of audiobooks I’ve listened to lately. I actually found myself hoping it wasn’t going to end soon. I have an hour left & still am unsure who is the killer(always a good sign)

Lapena doesn’t disappoint!

I thoroughly enjoyed this. As a fan of suspense, this book did not disappoint. I love Shari’s writing style and how she hides specific details in the beginning, middle, and the BAM! She hits you with a surprise ending that you could have or didn’t guess before it ended. In my case, I guessed the ending fairly early in the beginning, but was extremely solid in my guess with 40 minutes left in the audiobook—when the twist came in the last 10 minutes. Was I upset that I was able to guess the ending? Absolutely not, because it was still a fun ride for me to try and figure out who killed Amanda.

I absolutely love the switch from third person narrative to first person for the final chapter. That was creative and I love when authors do that.

Kristin Potter was also fantastic! Loved her emotion and voice choices.

I didn’t rate this a 5 because I feel like the middle got a little dull with the hefty revisiting of who was sleeping with who. With all the affairs that were going on, I wasn’t surprised by the end of the novel. I was just like, “oh! That makes sense.” (Btw, my neighbors barely speak. Must be nice to be having all these close relationships with your neighbors—and emphasis on “close.”)

Overall, I really enjoyed this. Shari Lapena has my heart. One of THE BEST suspense/thriller writers out there. Every book of hers is gold. But I will still judging them more critically because I do expect them to start topping one another. I must say that I enjoyed this book better than Unwanted Guest—Someone We Know was reminiscent of A Couple Next Door and Stranger in the House, with the exception of Someone We Know being less complex.

This was my first book read by this author. I liked her style of writing and moving on to another one of her books.

Addicting

This book was recommended to me by a friend. I enjoyed the murder mystery, plot twists and ease of listening. I thought that the reader was good, although had a heightened level of drama to her voice. I didn’t love the ending. But liked the book.
