One issue but good

The story line is great and the twist is WOW, but you can skip the first several chapters as it has nothing to do with the story. Not sure if the author just needed to fill some more pages or what.

Sleepy little girl British accent with a little girl voice

The story is good but it builds up to something much much better than the book outcome actually is. But it’s not that bad just very predictable. The narrator; oh boy…. I have no words. Can’t tell you how tired I was listening to that mambo jambo.

Surprising twists

This was an entertaining story that kept me listening when I should have been working. It’s not your typical story.

Two stars, rounded up!

Surrogacy is a hot new topic in psychological thrillers.

This book was predictable and slow -- lacking the "thrill" of similar books that I have listened to in this genre.

I was not quite sure what bothered me the most about this book. Perhaps it was the ignorant and whiny protagonist who refrained from doing proper due diligence on the couple who would be parenting her twins.

Or maybe it was the fact that the book dragged and featured too much repetitive text. The book was almost 8 hours long and easily could have been a 5-hour book.

And, finally, I was not a fan of the narrator. Was the narrator whining on purpose? Whether or not the narrator's whining was intentional, the overall listening experience was far from ideal.

As an aside, the author got the title wrong. The book was about "Someone Else's Babies" and not "Baby" since the surrogate mother was pregnant with twins.

UGH!

2 stars rounded up.

Weak Main character

Main character is weak, nobody would be this naïve. The story overall was entertaining, but unrealistic and not authentic in anyway. However the author is very creative which saved the story.

Even better on Audio

Some books just do it for you! For me this is one of those. It is such a wonderful narrative! It is an everyday tale, something that could happen to you or me, our next door neighbour or indeed anyone we know. Charlotte and her husband are just an ordinary couple who decide to do something extraordinary so that another less fortunate couple can share in the happiness and joy they have experienced with Alice.

Things don't go to plan and the emotional roller coaster develops apace gripping the reader and making this a page turner. I found myself to be there with them all along, feeling their emotions and hoping for a good outcome.

Not a lot is known about surrogacy. It is not a subject that is discussed everyday unless something goes wrong and hits the headlines. In this book Ruby Speechley took the subject to another level and exposed a frightening avenue that surrogate babies can go down.

The story, reactions and emotions are so realistic that at the end of the book I found myself wondering what will the Government now do to make sure this does not happen again. This feeling of 'something must be done now' speaks to the high level of the writer's research and craftsmanship.

A wonderful debut and I'm looking forward to Ruby Speechley's next offerings.

I first read this book on Kindle and the review above reflects my thoughts. Now I have heard it on audio and despite the fact that I knew the story I really enjoyed it again. I found the reader excellent and her voice appropriate to the story.

I now look forward to more Audio books from Ruby Speechley.

Excellent thriller beautifully read

The title put me off a bit - another stolen baby story - but it isn’t. It’s a heart wrenching story and realistically told.
Can’t say much because don’t want to spoil it for other listeners but just to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the narrator is BRILLIANT!

Really enjoyed

Took me a while to get into it at first, restarted it a couple of times determined for it not to be another waste of time and a credit and was so glad I did.

Good characters, good storyline, and didn't see the ending coming.

Unusual story

This is the first Audible book that I wanted to give up on during the first chapter. The narrator was so dull and had a monotonous voice. However she picked up a little and I found myself engrossed. The story opens up all sorts of questions about surrogacy and I had no idea that the law was so inadequate. I will try the author again but definitely not the narrator.o

Well read and an enjoyable listen

I really enjoyed this book, some bits were a little far fetched but wasn't disappointed in any way.
The narrator was great, perfect for for the book.

Surrogacy

I found the topic interesting. The novel was a little slow in the beginning but once we got to the end of the pregnancy it started to get more interesting. Overall I enjoyed the story and the narrator.
