Publisher's summary

Omega Force is back!

After the daring rescue of a political dissident, Omega Force is contracted to investigate a rash of violent attacks on civilian shipping lanes within a group of star systems known as the Concordian Cluster. It seems a simple enough job with a huge payday at the end, and it's exactly what the ragtag group of mercenaries needs in order to keep their ship flying and to stay one step ahead of those hunting them.

However, the further they delve into the seedy underworld of the Cluster, the more they realize they may be in over their heads. With innocent lives hanging in the balance, Captain Burke and his crew begin a desperate race to uncover who is responsible for these attacks, and why, before their ultimate goal can be realized.

Soldiers of Fortune is the follow up to the popular novel Omega Rising and the second book in the Omega Force series. It continues the adventures of Jason Burke, a lone human in space who has linked up with five other aliens to try their luck as hired guns. Their mandate: to help those who don't have the means to help themselves and never accept a job that would compromise the honor code they live by.

GREAT...... except for.......

I would give this book 2 Omega Force, Soldiers of Fortune a 100 percent perfect rating if it were not for the excessive use of foul language.

I know with the sad state of today’s lack of positive moral values I will be in the minority by saying this but I just have to because it does honestly bother me.

Aside from that so far Book 1 and 2 are AWESOME. The plot is well thought out.

And the audible presentation by Paul Heitsch is FABULOUS.

As soon as I post this review I will purchase Book 3 and probably the rest as well.

Thank you VERY much for making the Omega Force series (Smile).

Developed, dynamic, better

Big improvement over the 4 star start. Characters are fleshing out better, story is better (less "easy" than the first one), great second effort

Very cool

I am loving the exploits and command decisions of the wayward AirForce Vet. I really do enjoy this series. I especially like how old movie references are snuck in. Wonderful story and writing. Narrator does an amazing job. Buying the next one....now.

A solid entry in this series. Reads like a tv show

I'm writing this after reading and listening more than half my way through the series as it is currently written. This should speak to my enjoyment of the series. Paul Heitsch continues to do an excellent job narrating and bring the characters to life. I cannot speak enough to the continued quality of his performance. This is a weaker entry in his series. He struggles a bit more to realize exactly how he wants to write his characters and the interaction of the "Omega Force" crew. This feels more natural in the following books. This one almost feels like a sci fi tv show adventure and lacks some of the depth I feel are in further stories or even the last book. Still it is an enjoyable and worthwhile read.

Good sequel

I'm glad I got this book and will get the third, but what about the blonde?
The first book ended with a cliffhanger that was not satisfied in this book.

If only RC Bray could have narrated this....

This story is solid. I like the characters for the
most part, but the narration is average at best. He just doesn’t have enough good voices imo. If only RC Bray could have narrated this...and everything else for that matter!
Not sure I’ll continue in the series

From the ashes, the Phenix rises again.

If you could sum up Soldiers of Fortune in three words, what would they be?

This is on the grand scale of a Golden age Space Opera. A mismatched group of mercinaries, Capt Burke an American all but abducted into space. A Galvetic Warrior ( a warrior born and bred from a society of warrior)) , A Battle Synth ( a sentient mechanical man designed for war) a Medical Doc ( Geneticist by trade) a four armed Veran ( Computer Hacker) and twingo ( blue skined, charmer of engines and all things mechanical) while dissimilar they've all found a place, a family amd a cuase. To give hope to those who have lost it in the face of much stronger adversarie..

What did you like best about this story?

How seemlessly these dissimilar characters meld into a unique fighting force. Strong characters well drawn amd engaging.

Which scene was your favorite?

I think it would have to be when a young girl draws attent to herself by running through a high society party to greet her shy fearsome friend Lucky the Battle Synth. A constructed synthetic being which almost everyone else is frightened of.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There are several fun bits throught out but overall it's simply a very enjoyable fun read.

Any additional comments?

This is the second book in the series. While it could easily be listened to out of sequence. It's probbetter read in order simply to enjoy the growth of the characters. It's simple great fun.

a good sequel

I liked it but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book. I think part of the fun was getting to know all the characters.
