Acerca de esta escucha

Why do we connect with some people and not others? What makes great teams flourish? How does culture shape our attitudes? How does influence work? Join the coauthor of the world’s best-selling psychology textbooks to find out how small changes to your social environment can produce big changes in how you approach daily life and major decisions.

Most people rush to the power of personality when explaining how we think, feel, and act. While personality certainly plays a role in our behavior, the power of the social situation to influence our actions cannot be underestimated. As it explores the fascinating field of social psychology, this eye-opening audio course busts common myths about human psychology and behavior.

Your instructor is University of Kentucky psychology Professor Nathan DeWall, coauthor of the world’s best-selling psychology textbook. Described by Iowa State University Distinguished Professor of Psychology Craig A. Anderson as “one of the most influential psychological science leaders of his generation”, DeWall’s lectures reveal that he is as passionate about his subject as he is knowledgeable.

In 24 absorbing lectures, you’ll discover many of the different cognitive, motivational, and emotional factors that underlie social behavior. Along the way, you’ll come to appreciate - and evaluate critically - research in the behavioral sciences, applying what you learn from social psychology research to events in the real world. At the end of this course, you will have clearer self-awareness, better tools to foster friendships and romantic relationships, and a more compassionate heart to become a better global citizen.

This course is part of the Learn25 collection.

Enjoyed this (re)introduction to psychology. If classes were like then when I was in school, I may have been a psychologist.. The lecturer draws on personal experience in the field to flesh out the theories and ideas of psychology.

Great Introduction

Prof DeWall is one of extraordinary experts who combines deep knowledge of his subject with the real knack for communicating it. In this audio course, he explores the science of people in social situations. How do relationships form and function? How makes teams great? How do we influence others? I think he strikes the right balance between explaining the science well and making this series engaging with interesting stories.

This incredible course from Nathan DeWall provides ample food for thought on why we behave the way we do. In 24 meaty lectures, he tackles social psychology in various contexts, ultimately showing how attention to social psych can make us more empathetic and our lives more meaningful. Why do people commit arson? Why do we only eat certain kinds of meat? How does our need to belong affect our behavior? DeWall answers all of these, and many more, questions in these fascinating talks.

Provocative and eye-opening

Nate DeWall provides a very easy to understand overview of the way humans interact with each other. It's a fascinating introduction to the science behind our lives and interactions with others.

Nate is able to provide personal experiences and experiment outcomes which adds a nice personal touch to a topic that could be a very dry listen otherwise.

Why are we the way we are?

As a student is a psychology grad program, this was a great refresher. This also has a lot of practical information for those interested in this topic. The applicability of the information to everyday life was highlighted well by Dr. DeWall. The lectures were easily understandable.

Great Overview

Narrator has a speech problem with awkward pauses and only has one tone of voice. Anyone, Anyone… Bueller. Wish this was an international Social Psych book written by someone outside of American Politics. Pushing the same IAT (Implicit Bias), Critical Race Theory garbage about how all white people are subconscious racists. Author leaves out the main problem with IAT: it can’t actually predict individual racial bias. IAT tests lack any type of validity so might as well go to your local fortune teller and ask them if you’re racist. If you somehow missed out on being indoctrinated with Progressive (Marxist) non-sense in college this dumpster fire of a book has you covered.

Dowsing for Racism with Implicit Bias Testing
