Publisher's Summary

From Internet sensation Anna Akana comes a candid and poignant collection of essays about love, loss, and chasing adulthood.

In 2007, Anna Akana lost her teen sister, Kristina, to suicide. In the months that followed, she realized that the one thing helping her process her grief and begin to heal was comedy. So she began making YouTube videos as a form of creative expression and as a way to connect with others. Ten years later, Anna has more than a million subscribers who watch her smart, honest vlogs on her YouTube channel. Her most popular videos, including “How to Put on Your Face” and “Why Girls Should Ask Guys Out”, are comical and provocative, but they all share a deeper message: Your worth is determined by you and you alone. You must learn to love yourself.

In So Much I Want to Tell You, Anna opens up about her own struggles with poor self-esteem and reveals both the highs and lows of coming-of-age. She offers fresh, funny, hard-won advice for young women on everything from self-care to money to sex, and she is refreshingly straightforward about the realities of dating, female friendship, and the hustle required to make your dreams come true. This is Anna’s story, but, as she says, it belongs just as much to Kristina and to every other girl who must learn that growing up can be hard to do. Witty and real, Anna breaks things down in a way only a big sister can.

“This book is filled with the kind of honesty, vulnerability, and determination that makes Anna such a captivating person. One warning: You’ll want to hug her a lot while reading this.” (Natalie Tran, actress and comedian)

“As a woman working in entertainment, Anna Akana is accustomed to feeling vulnerable. Which means that she’s used to being brave. This book is a tribute to the duality of bravery and fear as told through Anna’s experiences to date.” (Hannah Hart, New York Times best-selling author of Buffering: Unshared Tales of a Life Fully Loaded)

“Frank advice on how to live a productive, happy life...written in tribute to a ‘fearless, talented, and bold’ sister.” (Kirkus Reviews)

Some repetition of stories, but of great ones!

Loved! Only suggestion is to trust that your audience mostly remembers the stories you already told throughout the book. Will read again =) great story!

Brilliant

What did you love best about So Much I Want to Tell You?

I loved how intimate it was. It honestly felt like my older sister was giving me life advice.

Any additional comments?

I decided to finish this on my way to work, which caused me to walk in the door with obvious signs of crying. 10/10 will definitely recommend this book. 1/10 don't recommend listening to it when you have professional obligations.

click bait.....I should have known better

After synopsis starting with the death of a sister, I sincerely hoped this memoir category set of letters would be more inspired. Instead, I concluded it confused and frustrated to have wasted the money. This book persists only on the surface of topics. There's no real analysis or deep thought.....just surface level observation. It generates no epiphanies, nor does it inspire. Would not recommend. Instead, find someone who has real experience and who actually will share the gritty details. skip this one.

First Audible Audiobook - It did NOT disappoint.

This is the very first book I got from Audible. It did not disappoint. It was funny, insightful, and relatable. A lot of truths, pain, and life lessons. I’m older than the author but felt I gained an older sister in her. Thank you for this audiobook, Anna.

Great!

I just want to say, to the user "Marisa" who wrote the one star review, I believe you missed the message of this book. Your perception of what the book was supposed to be askewed your opinion of it. This book is how it is told, a collection of stories and mistakes and aspects of Anna that she wishes she could tell her sister. I want to add there is no correct way to grief for someone after suicide, this is how Anna chose to write about Chris's impact on the life she has. I really enjoyed the read and it's short and sweet.

I agree with the one star review by user "Just"

This book title is definitely clickbait. "So much I want to tell you, letters to my sister." What does your dead sister care about losing subscribers on youtube because you had brand partnerships? Or that lip fillers were worth it? Based on the title and description, I thought it would be poignant reflections on grief and loss and how to cope. Based on the title, this book should have been a place for the author to dispense life advice to a sister who will never be able to read the letters, threading her life experiences around reasonings for said advice. They are not letters to her deceased sister. it is like any other youtuber's memoir, in that it is a collection of essays on random life experiences, and they do not all have the through-line of grief. This is a really surface level book. I am so disappointed and confused.

I could feel the story

It was great to hear the author read the story. It really made you feel what she was feeling when wrote the book. There were many instances that I could relate to. I recommend to anyone who wants to read a level-headed perspective on life.

Inspiring, enlightening and a handful of laughter

Loved it! I bought this and finished it in the same day. It inspired self-reflection and motivation better than any self-help book could, and made me realize many toxic traits I've demonstrated to others and myself e.g. the self harm and blaming, always eager to please or competitiveness with loved ones to the point of being unsupportive. This book will definitely give you some food for thought and a much needed push toward self-development and a happier you

I loved this so much it really helped thank you. I've been working in a job I really don't enjoy and dealing with mental health issues in a family that really just sweeps things under the rug, so honestly this felt like advice from an older sibling I really needed this.

Honest, relatable and inspiring

I love watching Anna Akana's YouTube videos. They get me through my week, so when her book came out I knew I just had to read it. Maybe it's because I'm just really nosy or just generally interested in getting tips on how I can get through life.
I loved every second of the narration. it's brutally honest - I love the down to earth "saying it how it really is" vibe. Really feels like the advice an older sister would've given me, real, personal and hard hittingly honest.

Amazing and motivational!

Listening to Anna Akana’s story makes you really think. About life, about dreams, about relationships, about self-worth, about everything. It makes me want to become more efficient and to work harder, cause I am the one in charge of my own life. It’s a joy to listen to her voice as she reads, and the pace of the book is pleasant. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, no matter what stage you are in your life!

Anna Akana Influenced Me To Be The Person I Am Today

@annaakana is and always will be one of the biggest influences on me. I discovered her when she was first starting out on YouTube in 2012. She's so strong and motivated with an amazing work ethic despite toxic relationships she's been in as well as the loss of her sister. I had a toxic family member that bullied me (step father who is now no longer in my life) and got bullied pretty badly every day at school on top of that. I had the lowest self esteem possible. I avoided mirrors if I didn't need to look into them to get ready. I had no personality. But I kept my chin up because if Anna can be in a place of depression and insecurity and still come into her own and be strong then so can I. And I did. I will never act on what happened in the past but use it as experience and wisdom to know to watch out for red flags in people. Her book is FULL of advice, bad things that have happened to her and what she's learned. This book is the advice she would give to her little sister that she lost and it's powerful (I downloaded the audio book that she narrated herself)

Fantastic

So incredibly heartbreaking and beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, as did my younger sister. It has given us many topics to discuss and learn from (we are of a similar age gap of Anna and Christina), Anna’s performance truly made it, you can hear every emotion in her voice and she really emphasises on the important parts.

Affective, Wise,

I love this book so much. I really wasn’t prepared for how disarmingly honest the author would be in its content. Her sincerity took me aback as she described her past traumas, lessons learned, successes, and so much more. I came out of the experience of listening to this audiobook so much richer for having done so. I learned new things about myself and gained fresh insight into my own life, traumas and career. Thanks to Anna for having written and performed this so well. It’s surely one I will come back to at different stages of my life.
