Destined for doom - or desire?

Growing up on the Isle of Moon, Brigitta knew that she was born with the magical powers of the Embraced - even if she did not know how to wield them. But she has finally learned the truth: Brigitta is the lost princess of the kingdom of Tourin. She was sent into hiding as an infant to escape the wrath of her half brother, the king. And now he knows just where to find her.

Rupert is a notorious pirate and sorcerer who can harness the wind with his hands. He's spent most of his life plotting revenge on the evil king - and Rupert believes that Brigitta could be the key to finally destroying his enemy. But what begins as a kidnapping of the innocent beauty escalates into something deeper and more passionate than either captor or captive could have imagined. Rupert soon vows to protect Brigitta against the king - but will they survive long enough to find their happily ever after...or does fate have something else in store?

Story is good but narrator...

I loved the book but the narrator was off putting. I felt like some old lady was the main character.

Fairly good story, Narrator is awful.

I usually like Ms. Sparks books. BUT, the Narrator did not do the story justice.I will not buy another with Jill Tanner as Narrator. So bland and boring I fell asleep numerous times and had to back up to hear what I missed. I like the idea of the story and thought about buying the first in the series, but the same narrator is doing that so, NO.I will not get it.

Narration ruined this book

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story was not bad per say. The narration was terrible. Many words are improperly pronounced.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

A better narration would have made it much better.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jill Tanner?

Nicole Poole is a favorite of mine.

What character would you cut from So I Married a Sorcerer?

All characters were likeable.

Rip Roaring Fun

Read for Review/Listened for Fun (NetGalley/Audible)
Overall Rating: 4.75
Character Rating: 5.00
Story Rating: 4.50

Audio Rating: 4.00 (not part of the overall rating)

Quick Thoughts: The best way to describe my experience while reading/listening: Rip Roaring Fun. Brigitta and Rupert were such strong characters but I really fell in love with their spunk. Their banter kept me in stitches. I liked that because it made me think they would have a great solid friendship along with the love that came to them. That is important because I can see a long future ahead of them.

Audio Thoughts: Narrated by: Jill Tanner who brought to life Rupert and Brigitta really well. She really stood out with Brigitta and the pacing. There was some pretty rapid fire banter in this story and Jill really stayed on pace. I had fun listening.

So much better than the traditional romance

Holy Hot Pockets! This book is the 2nd in the embraced series and carries on the story of the lost ones who became sisters as orphans in a convent on a remote island. In this one Brigitta finds her tall, dark and handsome only he's a pirate....cue, lusty thoughts here! LOL, I didn't even know I liked paranormal romance but I am flying through these books and can't get enough. Handsome men with special powers, beautiful strong willed women with special powers, toss in some shape shifters, dragons and more to round out an incredible plot that will keep you turning pages!

Interesting story

I loved how this story was related to How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days, but is also its own very different story. Oh the overall theme is the same. Boy meet girl. Boy falls for girl. Girl falls for boy. Things happen and they find themselves King and Queen of their province. However, how they get there . . . Their "embraced" powers are very different. Their paths that lead them to this story is well written and interesting. The challenges are breathtaking. Or is that breath steeling? I was a big fan of the narrator. She wasn't consistent with her voices, sometimes making it difficult to distinguish characters .

Can't do it.

I read/listen to the first book and liked it.

Thus one, not so much. I could not finish. First, Brigitta was a ninny. She sounded immature (19 years old). She was suppose to be copying books but usually ends up redoing them in "an overly dramatic fashion". Another sentence that is overly used. She turns them into romance novels straight out of medieval times. Her entire view on life is colored by this. She and her "sisters" play a game with stones to discover their futures. All they seem to care about was if the men are handsome. Got tired of hearing about it.

"Rupert" the pirate kidnaps her to use her against her evil brother, the king. She just found out she's a princess literally minutes before Rupert gets her. He knows who she is of course but will not tell her and about their connection.

Did not hold my interest at all and did not relish 10 more hours of it.

Wow, A Nail Biter

Intrigue, suspense, romance...mythical creatures, a beautiful princess, dashing flawed hero, cruel king...everything you want in a story.

There are 37 chapters in this book. When I got to chapter 33, I started to lose it. My hands were actually shaking. By chapter 35, I was screaming that it couldn't end this way. I will not give any spoilers but I will state that I normally do not have this kind of visceral reaction to a story. So any story that can elicit a strong physical response from me is golden in my opinion.

New Obsession!!!

This series has become one of my top five! I never wanted this book to end. Jill Tanner is the absolute perfect narrator for this wonderful swashbuckling, heart pounding, beautifully written, memorable tale. I wish I could give it more stars. The characters are well thought out, the moves they make are smart and make sense, the story moves along easily and you are sucked in from GO! Now, go download this wonderful narrative and be prepared to lose some sleep until it's done!
