Publisher's Summary

As a child, she lost something precious at Christmas. Twenty years later, she's about to lose her heart.

Lena Carver works as her physician brother’s medical assistant, housekeeper, and cook despite her disfigurement from a childhood accident. Each year, the Christmas holidays come with contradictions - cherished memories of a mysterious encounter and painful recollections of a great loss. Lena lives with the belief that she is beyond love’s reach, until a dark-eyed cowboy arrives broken, bruised, and bent on changing her mind.

Wil Bergman wakes in a stranger’s home with a busted leg, a bullet-creased scalp, and no horse. Trail-weary, robbed, and penniless, his dreams and plans for a future are suddenly unattainable. Forced to recuperate in the home of a country doctor, he finds himself at the mercy of a surgeon whose sister’s healing touch has power to stitch up his lonely heart and open his eyes to the impossible.

Sweet Story

This was a sweet story, that is perfect for anyone wanting a little clean, sweet, uplifting story for Christmas time. I did find it took me a little while to get into it, relative to the fact it is a novella. The second half was fantastic though! Lee Ann Howlett did a fantastic job with voices and her narration. She is super easy to listen to. I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

Old Fashioned Romance

The narrator did a good job engaging the listener. I laughed with the characters at times. It took me a little bit to get into it but once I did it was a good read

Snow Angel

The title of this book made me grab it, while I hated laying in the snow, we always seemed to be laying down making them! So listening to this as Lena made her way out of the house and making angel after angel, I was transported back to fun times in my childhood and with my kids. But never had I the experience that poor Lena ended up with. Now years later, after the fateful day of her snow angel making, she is helping her brother with his medical practice when a patient with a severely broken leg and the graze of a bullet by his ear is brought in. Will and Lena form a bond while she tends to his recovery and little does she know how they have met before! Lee Ann Howlett brings this clean, sweet romance to life with a beautiful portrayal of the characters that is perfect for the holiday season.

It's 3.5 stars, really...

It's a very short listen as it's a novella but it is quite good as such short stories go... It's a sweet clean romance, with characters that are likeable though because of the length of the story do not develop much. But there's enough room for showing the growing attachment between Lina and Will, and there's also enough Christmas magic to make it a nice treat for everyone - just cradle yourself in an armchair with a mug of warm coffee (or eggnog if you'd rather:)) and let yourself relax while listening to that comforting Christmas tale:) Narration by Ms Howlett is quite good; the voices are nicely done, narration rings true and the pace is quite all right, too. Excellent feel good story

I got this book via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. this story grabbed me in the beginning and did not turn me loose until the end. I loved the dog. I also loved how the couple fell in love in spite of circumstances. There was not a lot of angst in this story. Just enough drama to make it interesting without leaving the reader feeling as if they are wondering how the love developed. The narrator brought the story to life. Can't wait for the next one. I hope it is the brother's. I loved the blue-eyed stranger in the heavy coat.

Sweet, traditional, and Christmassy

Snow Angel is very sweet, and quite 'old-fashioned' in a way that has nothing to do with the period in which it is set. It is a novella filled with traditional, goodly people, all in search of a happy ending. Despite this naive style it has been nicely written, with obvious thought given to the phrasing and descriptions. Lena's story flows smoothly, and whilst I would have preferred the resolution to have had a less 'miraculous' bent, I could tell from its tone that this audiobook was always going to be a Hallmark-movie tale. After enjoying Bless Thine Inheritance by Sophia Holloway so much recently, I was pleased to see another historical heroine with a disability in this story. Spencer does a good job of portraying the ways in which Lena has adapted to the loss of function without ever making her seem like an invalid; even if she is convinced that society sees her that way. The narrator, Lee Ann Howlett, has a pleasant voice that felt very much like she was reading a gentle bedtime story. I think it might have benefitted from a narrator with a more Southern accent, given the colloquial nature of the writing and quirks of local dialect, but Howlett was enjoyable to listen to and her lilting voice kept the story feeling hopeful. This audiobook is a nice, lightweight listen which suited its format well. Novellas and short stories are notoriously tricky to balance, but this one does it well, painting a clear enough picture of the characters that we care about their fates without overreaching and leaving too much undone. I would recommend Snow Angel to those who enjoy sweet romances and are looking for a seasonal treat. If you wait all year for the TV channel showing non-stop Christmas movies to return then you'll love this audiobook, too. *I received this audiobook free of charge in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
