Lily Maygarden, a small-town photographer, is surprised to realize the handsy cop who makes her blood boil with frustration, also makes her body heat with his dark chocolate eyes and sexy dimple nestled in the stubble on his—Damn, damn, damn! Lily doesn’t want her body to react to him, but it does. Matt Cooper, a former big city SWAT team member recovering from a life-changing injury, is the newest addition to the small Cherokee Police Department. Matt knows from the first moment he has his hands on Lily, she's going to be trouble. When someone threatens Lily’s business and her life, Matt tries to pretend she’s just another case he's working. Her fiery green eyes and sassy, southern attitude are a distraction he can't afford as the danger mounts around them.

Ivy Beck is a new-to-me author, and consider me impressed, not only with her wonderful writing style but with the intriguing story and characters she created. The story swept me right in, grabbing my attention and holding it captive throughout. Lily Maygarden is trying to build her own photography business, and with her modeling experience when she was a child, she wants to advocate for children new to the industry. Her aunt was her guardian growing up and is in the business, and she is looking to get away from her to go on her own, since they do not see eye-to-eye on things. Lily set up shop in Cherokee, a small town, just far enough away from her aunt. Matt Cooper, a former big city cop on the SWAT team, came to the Cherokee Police Department needing a change of pace after an injury and a big SNAFU. His first time meeting Lily was a response to an intruder at her business, which did not go so well, especially for him, and the second time did not go so well either, especially for her. The third time should have been the charm, but far from it, the third time resulted when someone ransacked her business, and Matt is determined to find out who, why, and to keep her safe. The chemistry between Lily and Matt was electric, and it was great watching their relationship grow and morph into something so much more. There is never a dull moment in the book, a multilayered story with the perfect balance of drama, mystery, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt emotions and a slow-burn romance. The author keeps you thinking and wondering who was behind it all, and while I figured out what they were missing in the beginning, I had not figured out the reasons and where it led to, which was a great twist. Ivy Beck, thank you for this wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous audiobook listen and production performed by Vanessa Edwin and Robert Hatchet who did an incredible job voicing the characters. Edwin’s take on Lily was perfection, grasping every facet of her personality, from her sassy wit to her vulnerabilities to her sweet and caring side, and she nailed it with the southern accent too. Hatchet was just as amazing in Matt’s role and did the same with showcasing his personality to a T, also a natural in the role. Both were fantastic at performing the roles of the side/secondary characters too. They set the ideal tone for the story, and their expressive delivery conveys all the characters’ emotions, making you feel them all. These two are versatile voice artists and entertaining storytellers whose captivating performances not only keep you hooked but takes the already wonderful story to another level.

This is my very first Ivy Beck book and I have to say that it was such a good introduction to her writing.

I went through this book so dang fast !
I’m a sucker for small town stories and I really enjoy romantic suspense .

Matt is ex SWAT and Lilly is a photographer ( former model).
Someone breaks into Lilly’s studio, she calls for help and Matt shows up. The rest is complete history and Matt definitely falls first 😏.

I couldn’t put it down because I had to know who the heck was causing all the chaos!? Who broke in?
Who did it? Do they have an accomplice?
You have to read to find out.

The narration was amazingly done and I plan to pick up another Ivy Beck book in the future!
