Acerca de esta escucha

Riley Crane woke up fully dressed, a gun under her pillow, and covered in blood. Even more frightening, she didn't remember what happened the night before. In fact, she barely remembered the previous three weeks.

An ex-army officer, now a federal agent assigned to the Special Crimes Unit, Riley was a chameleon - a clairvoyant who could blend in with her surroundings, be anyone or anything she chose to be. The SCU's expert on the occult, she'd been sent to the beachfront cottage on Opal Island by her enigmatic chief, Noah Bishop, to investigate reports of dangerous occult activity.

But that was three weeks ago. Now she's awoken to discover that she's got a sexy new man in her life and an unreliable memory, and that the clairvoyant abilities she's always depended on to protect her are MIA. Worse yet, with SCU resources stretched thinner than ever before, Riley is alone and without backup, feeling her way through a deadly game of blindman's buff, where no one around her is quite who or what they seem. And a bizarre murder is only the first jarring reminder of how high the stakes really are.

Bishop wants Riley off the case. So does powerful local D.A. Ash Prescott. Both her old retired army buddy Gordon Skinner and Sheriff Jake Ballard believe she can catch a vicious killer. But one of these four men knows exactly what's going on in this coastal community, and that's knowledge Riley desperately needs. For what Riley can't remember is more than enough to cost her her life. This time evil isn't just closer than she thinks - it's already there.

I just wish they would same narrator for all the bishop series that way frequent characters such as bishop sound the same

Loved it

I have bought all of the audio books in this series so far. But the narrator for this novel was actually painful to listen to. When doing the lead character’s voice , she was fine. ALL other characters sounded like she had a painful , dry, sore throat.

Narrator was terrible

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

As with all Kay Hooper books the story was good and I didn't have any idea until the end who it was.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was a surprise to finally learn who the bad "guy" was.

What aspect of Kathy Garver’s performance would you have changed?

I didn't care for Kathy's performance. She pronounced everything too perfectly and it seemed stiff.

Was Sleeping with Fear worth the listening time?

Yes

Story was good...

The narrator made the story hard to follow. Her voice almost sounded cheery during times that didn’t make sense to sound that way. I hates the music at the end of the chapters. It also often did not match the severity of the storyline

Terrible telling if a great story

I never rate my books but this narrator was so horrible that I just had to write a review on this one. I almost couldn’t get through it. I’m not even sure the voice was human because it was so similar to the electronic voices on our phones.

The story was good and worth the read but I implore you to never use this narrator again.

Narrator was HORRIBLE

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sleeping with Fear?

There weren't any that I can recall. Overall, it was just an average book.

Did Kathy Garver do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

For the most part. There were several occasions that left me a little confused because I wasn't sure which male character was talking, but overall was ok.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I didn't find it as engaging as the previous trilogy with the male narrator. Not sure if that was a result of the storyline or the telling.

Any additional comments?

The most annoying thing about the audio book is the narrator's use of A-W-O-L instead of just saying "ay-wall" like any normal person would do. It's used quite a few times throughout the book and it just makes the narration seem stilted and unnatural. It drives me crazy.

One exceptionally annoying quirk...

almost didn't listen to it when I heard the narrator 'attempt' to do male voices. she was, however, good with the southern accents. great story, of course.

bad narrator

Would you try another book from Kay Hooper and/or Kathy Garver?

I really like the series and will continue to listen to the rest of the series but I'm hoping that the narrator changes as I found her distracting and lacking the depth found in the previous books

Would you be willing to try another one of Kathy Garver’s performances?

Not intentionally

Could you see Sleeping with Fear being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really

Good Story Fair Narrator

I usually like all Harper's stories but this one was very weak. I also DID NOT like the narrator. I did not like her voices of the characters especially. Bad accents.
I also really did not like the addition of the music at the conclusion of some of the chapters. Very cheesy.

Bad Narrator, poor story line

I love this entire series but this narrator was terrible and the random music throughout was weird. I also would’ve like more of Bishop in the story.
