Should of called it Gremlin

The book was good, Scott Brick narration is always spot on. Had it been someone else I may have not liked it as much. He can make any book better over all worth the listen

Fell short

I love John Lutz’s series with Frank Quinn. This however fell short of the usual anticipation and excitement that comes with the detective series. Although enjoyable, the book lacked a certain creativity that was in the beginning Detective Quinn books.

What Happened John Lutz?

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I kept looking at my iPod to see if I accidentally purchased the abridged version of the book. It seemed like there where huge holes in the story. The setting would change and a lot of time had passed. It was like I had missed a chapter or two, and this happened several times throughout the book.

What was most disappointing about John Lutz’s story?

Lutz usually includes all of the characters working at his agency, with this book they are all but non existent. The story line was unrealistic. The only way this story could have been more ridiculous and sloppy is if the main character Quinn had decided to dress as Batman and was battling the Joker.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, his performance was as I expected it would be.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It made the other books in the series look much better.

Any additional comments?

I don't know if I will ever read another Frank Quinn book. This book felt like Lutz pushed it out just to satisfy a publishing contract or for a quick buck. This effort is so far below Lutz's usually effort. Weak storyline, weak plot progressing, poor organization with huge holes in the story. I am so disappointed.

Oh, Brother!

What an overdone, melodramatic mess this is. A recycle of a serial killer story, complete with the abusive childhood backstory recounted in multiple historical flashbacks, then throw in dozens of deaths performed in numerous ways which become ever more unbelievable.

Our villain is called The Gremlin, and while his description is remarkable for short, jockey-sized stature, an outlandishly large and pointed ear, and a spritely, skipping stride, he seems to miraculously evade recognition time and time again - even by people who are actively looking for him and within hand-shaking distance, and despite being front-page news for weeks, if not months. He also seems to have all the time in the world to plan and carry out his murders, some of which in the real world would take hours and require enormous muscular stamina to perform. And the murders, like his pointy ear, become more outlandish as the story progresses. What a pile of baloney.

Not even the great Scott Brick can salvage this turkey. My suggestion? Move along...there's nothing to see here.
