One June day when Mia Jacob can no longer see a way to survive, the power of words saves her. In a rare and gorgeous departure, beloved novelist Alice Hoffman weaves a web of tales, all set in Blackbird House. This small farm on the outer reaches of Cape Cod is a place that is as bewitching and alive as the characters we meet. These interconnected narratives are as intelligent as they are haunting, as luminous as they are unusual. Inside Blackbird House more than a dozen men and women learn how love transforms us and how it is the one lasting element in our lives.

Publisher's summary
Walking this path of ruin and redemption are Sam, their son, a brilliant, explosive artist who is drawn to self-destruction and dreams; Blanca, the beautiful loner who tries desperately to protect her brother from his destiny and lives her own life in a world of books; and Will, the grandson, who is left a legacy of broken pieces he needs to put together, an emotional and mysterious puzzle made up of people who don't know the first thing about love. Here is a family so real, so tragic, so devoted, it is as if they have written their own riveting history: a quest for love and truth.

I really enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book - but I am an Alice Hoffman fan. Her blending of what is real and what just might be real is interesting and convincing. Then narration was great – calming, soothing and so appropriate for this novel. This is definitely a good read (or listen).

Alice Hoffman Fan
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would highly recommend any Alice Hoffman book. I became a fan after reading The Dovekeepers. Every book is different but all seem to have a haunting undertone.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Interesting story. Mare is a very good narrator.
This story held my interest all the way through. Although it was only 7 hours it seemed longer. It was very well produced. Mare Winningham was an excellent narrator. The story was different, not run of the mill. I like stories that are not a dime a dozen. Also, it doesn't have "filler". The author has a story to tell and she tells it. She's not just trying to fill space just because she can. If anything she perhaps had a little trouble letting go of the story... but telling a story is such a creative process. It's all subjective.

Amazing as always
Alice Hoffman is a brilliant author .
She describes her characters with such creativity and humanity and in Jude’s their fragility, their truth and their strength. The stories are highly imaginative , surreal and very really in quality. Haunting and provocative, you never want to out the book down.

Story
Nora and Theresa Flynn are 21 and 17 when they leave their small village in Ireland and journey to America. Nora is the responsible sister; she's shy and serious and engaged to a man she isn't sure that she loves. Theresa is gregarious; she is thrilled by their new life in Boston and besotted with the fashionable dresses and dance halls on Dudley Street. But when Theresa ends up pregnant, Nora is forced to come up with a plan - a decision with repercussions they are both far too young to understand.
