முதலாம் மகேந்திரவர்ம பல்லவன் அரசாண்ட காலத்தில் நடைபெற்ற சம்பவங்களைப் பயன்படுத்தி எழுதப்பட்ட இப்புதினத்தில் முதலாம் நரசிம்ம பல்லவன் என்ற இளவரசன் முக்கிய இடம் வகிக்கிறார். கல்கி சஞ்சிகையில் வெளிவந்து பரவலான கவனத்தை ஈர்த்த இந்நாவல் பரஞ்சோதி யாத்திரை, காஞ்சி முற்றுகை, பிக்ஷுவின் காதல், சிதைந்த கனவு என நான்கு பாகங்களைக் கொண்டதாகும். இப்புதினத்தின் கதையானது காஞ்சியில் ஏற்பட்ட போர்ச் சூழலையும், அதன் தொடர்ச்சியாக சாளுக்ய நாட்டின் தலைநகர் வாதாபியின் மீது பல்லவர் போர்தொடுத்தது பற்றிய செய்திகளையும் உள்ளடக்கியதாகும். இக்கதையின் தலைவன் யாரென்பதை சுட்டிக் காட்டுவது இயலாத காரியமாகும். முதல் பகுதியில் பல்லவ மன்னன் முதலாம் மகேந்திரவர்மனே நாயகனைப் போன்று தோன்றினும் பிற்பகுதியில் அவரது மகன் நரசிம்ம பல்லவர் கதையை ஆதிக்கம் செலுத்துகிறார். கதையில் பல்லவ மற்றும் சாளுக்கிய நாட்டின் வரலாறு அழகாக எடுதியம்பப்பட்டுள்ளது.

An alltime Tamil classic ruined by subpar narrator

Though narrator's tamil pronunciation is good, my listening experience was distracted by an annoying tonal template he repeats for all characters, situations and emotions.  His cringe-worthy attempt in mimicking the voice of the lead female character is a big let-down!! The narrator's tone is like that of a teacher sarcastically reading exerpts from his students work in a classroom. The innocence, natural expressions of the characters as they present themselves as the story evolves, the magnitude of the situations (especially in a setting of war threat) and the curiosity are fully lost.   


What a big injustice to one of the treasures of great Kalki!
