Publisher's summary

She works to live....

One would think the last place a beauty like Fallon O'Rourke could keep her virtue was in the Mayfair mansion of London's most licentious duke, the notorious Dominic Hale. Yet Fallon - who's endured nothing but lecherous advances since her father's tragic death - is perfectly safe there... disguised as a footman! Beneath the notice of the dark-haired devil with his smoldering blue eyes and sinful smile, Fallon never imagines her secret will be discovered. But how long can her deception last when she begins to wish she is one of the many women traipsing in and out of the sinful rogue's bedchamber?

He lives to sin....

Most men envy the duke, never suspecting his pleasure-loving ways are a desperate attempt to escape, however briefly, the pain of a past that's left him with a heart of stone. Only one woman can break down his defenses. Only one woman can win his love...if she reveals her secret and succumbs to the sins of the wicked duke.

Good enough story and a good narrator

You know what you're getting with these types of books, some are more entertaining than others - this one is one of the better ones. Fallon can't get a job cause she's too sexy with her long striking hair so she dresses like a boy to get a job as a footman. The devilish but handsome (of course!) Duke hates himself and uses women one after the other. Fallon ends up working for the Duke who has no idea his new valet is the lovely woman he rescued one night and who has haunted him since their meeting.

Well worth the credit and I will look for further books by Sophie Jordan.

Undeveloped plot, full of cliches

This book was really light on plot. The author tried to make it a bit angsty with a tormented hero and a cross dressing heroine but neither plot was developed properly so we end up with a story full of cliches that it's not satisfying.

Both main characters had tough childhoods, her in a terrible school (reminded me of the one Jane Eyre attended, with no food and girls dying left and right) and him with a vicar grandfather that hired a sadist governess to raise him. While the hero was completely destroyed by this - he goes around saying how he's numb and doesn't feel anything - the heroine still has gumption.

The heroine took to cross dressing like a fish to water. Yes, she's tall but it's not explained how she was able to fool everybody overnight, specially when she's never dressed as a man before.

The hero for his part, is supposed to be an artist (how you can be an artist without feeling anything, I don't know) but this wasn't explored either. There's never even ONE scene with him painting so I don't know how this added anything to this personality.

I didn't see any chemistry between the characters and I don't know how they fell in love. Neither was particularly special or memorable.

The narration was adequate although I thought that her voice for Francis (that's Fallon in her manly disguise) was pretty much the same as when she acted as a woman. It was a bit deliberate so I had it in 2x speed most of the time.

Definitely NOT continuing the series or reading this author again.

Oh to be so wicked!

Very wicked tale! Well written, at moments rather tongue in cheek, and at others scorchingly sensuous. It’s excellent narration adds to the fun of it, totally enjoyable!

I’ve listened to this one several times, so it’s definitely worth it!

Just Okay

This is my first book from this author and I am not saying that I will not read any more but I would be a bit hesitant. This was not a bad book but I must say it could have been a bit more interesting and the narrator did not help. The story dragged a bit and I was so wondering when it was going to finish. Had there been a little more kick and adventure, I could have rated this book an easy five stars.

Awful

My goodness Sophie, you published this drivel? Another reviewer called it "Drab" and that's rating it highly. I'm not a huge fan of roll reversal, as this tall girl is working as a footman cum valet for a libertine. When said drunk scoundrel walks into the valets bedroom and sees it's actually a girl that has stepped out of the bath, he nearly rapes her. Kudos to Fallon for having a lot of gumption but I'm seeing no need to continue past chapter 14.

Sexy, funny, showed bravery, romantic

This book had it all, also loved the reader in this. There was enough suspense, but not so much that you had to wait for release of the tension, then more suspense. All around excellent!

My favorite so far

Any additional comments?

Wow! This was a good book, probably my 3 or 4th book of hers and this was probably my favorite. Really enjoyed the characters and even the narrator was awesome (I had my doubts at first). Would highly recommend this one.

I enjoyed this book

Though I thought it would be a stretch for a woman to be able to quickly change herself to a man if she were as feminine as described and stay undiscovered in close quarters, the story was engaging enough and entertaining enough to overlook this. Overall, the story was light and entertaining. Nothing too intense or deep and bordering on implausible. But, if your looking for light and breezy, a little humor, and romance this will do the trick.

Loved it

Where does Sins of a Wicked Duke rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book ranks fairly high - it had a couple of really good things going for it... a fantastic narrator (very well spoken, lots of variety of voices, no weird sniffs or smacking sounds), a great story line (I like girl-hides-in-plain-sight-as-boy kinds of stories), and it was on a BOGO sale (I bought it with Jennifer Cruisie's delightful and quirky "Getting Rid of Bradley"). It was a lucky find!
