Having watched Prime Suspect and Endeavor series, I have grown quite fond of British mysteries, colloquial language, humor, and police ranks. A DCI led team lends familiarity to this novel. The characters are well developed and I drew clear pictures of them in my mind. The voices of the performers added a lot to the story.

The story itself derives from what happened to girls at a "care" home, of which the lead character also has first hand knowledge. The action moves along at a good clip and suspense builds to a climax that surprised me. There are more surprises that follow and an epilogue of sorts wrapping up the story with a neat bow. I hate loose ends.

In summary, the plot is suspenseful and the characters are interesting; they keep you coming back. The performance definitely adds to the enjoyment. I gave it 4 stars because I really don't have anything bad to say, but it's not "I Am Pilgrim".

Silent Scream is the first novel in the Detective Kim Stone Crime Thriller series. I have previously reviewed Evil Games, the second novel in the series, and will review the final three currently available in audio format later.

Silent Scream is an excellent novel but it is the weakest novel in the Detective Kim Stone Crime Thriller series. This novel and this series are dark and have some characteristics of both noir (moral ambiguity) and psychological thrillers.

I've awarded this novel 5 stars rather than the 4+ it clearly earns based on the extraordinarily superb narration of British actor and audio book narrator Jan Cramer; darn, she is good!

Great Listen!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I like the way it builds up with all kind of clues , characters and situations!. I am 3/4 of the way through and am wondering what is around the next corner.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the characters and the "unknown" characters speaking throughout. I love how it is building and I am waiting for the next pieces of information to drop! The background is served in small bits and that adds to the story. I like that. I really like the story line and different participants as well as the authors description of each character.

Any additional comments?

I like the main character, but I think she could have been a bit less skeletal in her creation. She is a bit "too" tough and less emotional for my tastes. Then again, maybe she will flesh out more as the story continues. Her partner seems to have more depth than she and that's odd for me. Overall,I really do love the book and am now getting her second book.

Twists and turns and shocks at every turn. great book , keeps you guessing till the end.

Okay read

This book was just okay. Slow to start and I had a hard time sticking with it. An unlikeable heroine with a miserable childhood is over used for female police women.

Loved this. Ready for book 2 in this series.

Jan Cramer is excellent in her narration. The book is a must read for any crime scene detective who done it. A thriller until the end.
The lead character Kim Stone was perfect with her hard exterior but caring interior.

Great mystery plot & narrator!

Love this series! On to book 2! Then, there is even a book 3!

Narrator Nailed It!

I enjoyed the story. Most of the time I listened on Audible. I highly enjoyed it because of the narrator; she was excellent!

The depth of Kim is wonderful

Great read. Good storyline, does the unexpected many times. The characters are well formed and have layers. Each character is part of the story! Not just an animated heroine surrounded by cardboard cutouts. Jump on in, the water is fine.

Great mystery series--kept me guessing at every turn!,

I liked the way the story took me from person to person and getting to know them. The ending was surprising and unexpected. Would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.
