Publisher's Summary

It's hard enough being an undergraduate student, an intern at Downtown Manhattan's police station, and a bouncer at a local bar. Add her now-ex-boyfriend who recently dumped her for the school's resident bimbo - oh, and she's a werewolf.

Mackenzie Grey meets her match when she is kidnapped by the Brooklyn Pack and tossed between Sebastian and Jonah - the Alpha and the Beta. Being a lone wolf in the city is dangerous, and now that the Pack has found her, so can every supernatural being in the Tri-State area. And not even her sarcastic, smart mouth can get her out of this.

When a string of kidnappings involves Mackenzie in supernatural politics, she questions her new acquaintances and finds unlikely allies. Can she escape Pack law and keep her freedom - or will she be condemned to an unwanted path?

Contains mature themes.

Meh

It was ok, but very slow... nothing really happens in the story till the very end. Plus the narrator was kinda annoying. I will give the author another chance & read the next book to see if it's any better that way...

I'm not sure

This is a pretty good story with an interesting plot. But there were a few things that was really off putting.
1. The love triangle is clumsy and distracting. Too much time is taken by the convoluted back and gorth between Jonah and Sebastian.

2. Mackenzie seems to be in a constant state of confusion that takes away from her being a strong woman.

3. Some of the plot twists were never fleshed out which makes the plot weak.

4. This is not high school. Is it really necessary to have both a female and werewolf nemisis? When will authors get away from mean girls?

Nicole Poole does a great job giving the characters life, but she couldn't make this story great. I'm not sure if I want to get the next story, but, I probably will.

Not what I wanted or expected from a shifter story

I liked this series and it had great potential. Nicole Poole is one of my favorite narrators too. The biggest issue I have with this book/story, and the reason for my rating, is the character of Mackenzie. The author wanted her to be head strong and what not but she came across as childish and throws temper tantrums with every chance she gets. You can’t have grown a** men who act like grown ups dig a girl who acts 13 and wants to start a “Luna revolution”. She’s not a feminist. She’s not an adult. It would have been a better YA story with the lead as a 16 year old. I thought it would get better as she grows up and deals with the fact she’s a wolf but it doesn’t. I like books where the female lead knows what she wants, doesn’t have a human moral code, and can get down and dirty. I can see the author wanted to make Mack like this but she comes off as a child. I wish I could’ve liked this book so I can finish the series but I truly can’t waste money or a credit just to listen to a whiny child complain about her life, complain about compulsion, complain about the treatment of Luna’s and how she’s not a housewife, then complain about the attention she’s getting from men because she’s still sad about her ex cheating on her with Barbie. I can’t and I spent most of this book skipping 20 seconds ahead to get to the good parts. :(

Can't wait to see where it goes

I'll be honest, I picked this book up a year or two ago and got about halfway through and stopped. I just couldn't get past the "mean girls" vibes it was giving from the women in the pack. I kept hearing good things, and Nicole Poole is my favorite narrator, so I figured I would try it again. I'm glad I did!! This time I'm really enjoying it and I can see where there is more depth and not too much time spent around the childish drama. I love the main character and hope she continues to grow. Also the Alpha and Beta are keeping me on my toes! I definitely recommend it so far.

Nothing ventured nothing gained

Story is good. Heroine is stubborn to the point of being stupid. No questions were answered. Nothing was settled. No man chosen. No sex scenes, no excitement and she is leaving everyone behind to be a Lone Wolf in the sequel.

ok this actually feminine empowerment

Yes there's romance, but not at the expense of her self respect. The lead character is human, she has insecurities, she's vulnerable, and open to learning from her mistakes.

I've listened to 3 of the books in this series and am about to start the 4th. Karina Espinosa has writing down to an art. She doesn't waste time trying to sound good or clever. It's almost as if she has witnessed this world she created, let it flow freely from her being into our plain, and is allowing us to live what she experienced.

Bravo, Espinosa and Bravo!

Nicole Poole happens to be my favorite narrator. When I listen to a story portrayed by her, I forget I'm listening to an audiobook and feel like I'm in the story.

Thank you Ms Poole for bringing me into this world.

Don’t waist your money !

This Book is slow going, boring and a waist of time.
If you want something in this still but good, try the Skinwalker series !
