A freak accident, his world torn apart....

Antonio Morris has it all, until an accident takes everything from him. Now disabled, this once alpha male is left with an uncertain future. Until she enters his life.

A fresh start....

Karina is finally living her dream directing movies, and she has her eye on Antonio as her new lead. She can see everything he can still be, even if he can’t see it himself. When Antonio flirts with her, she is flattered, but she is a professional, and she is definitely not his type.

Liked it

Liked the premise of the story. Two black folk in entertainment, one being an actor with a physical disability(his disability was that he had an arm amputee). The appeared to be somewhat rivals/enemies to lovers from the beginning and I liked how it progressed from that. It was steamy as the sexy times came, but there was just two issues I had that made it not a five.

While the disability rep is not seen as much in AA romance, I liked he was disabled, but he seemed like he wasn't written like he was more than his disability at times. I didn't expect him to be always happy all the time, but so much of him was trying to prove he was capable or that that's all audiences cared about when it came to his career, that he seemed like he was his disability instead of a sexy human being who just happened to also be disabled.

Also Karina wasn't a typical heroine. Most times she was described as hideous. I'm not sure I connected to it because I'm not comfortable seeing a Black woman being described that way. A plain Jane I would've stomached, because it's okay to be average, but I just didn't connect to it, because I prefer romances where even if the heroine isn't drop dead gorgeous, the hero sees her that way.

Romance is supposed to be escapism and if the world already naturally reviews black women on the bottom, I'm looking for fiction to fix or validate black women. Overall I still enjoyed and look forward to follow ups. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Steamy, love story

Antonio, an actor, feeling sorry for himself afetr an accident left his arm amputed. He went into seclusion thinking his acting career is over. Karina , a director, familiar with his acting potential ,offers Antonio a role of a lifetime. Both have their insecurities. The relationship deveopes slowly. it is built on self confidence, trust and love between them. The narrator, Shaeffer Hughes, was excellent in his nardation of this story. I recevied a free code in exchane for an honest review.

Great audiobook in it's genre.

I enjoyed this audiobook. There are very few audiobooks of any genre that are specifically revolving around black people. Although I am not black myself, I fully enjoyed this book. The story had a great move along then slow down followed by move along tempo. I recommend this audiobook. Now for the obligatory: "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Liked the chemistry and strength of Karina

Audiobook review - book 5 in series, but can be read as a stand alone.

Karina is an actress that doesn’t want to take roles without meaning & substance. She’s a BBW who recently won “woman of the year” award - which was a shock considering she’s doesn’t have the perfect body, face or style. It’s taken her a long time to get this point, but she’s made her way into directing, and she’s found the perfect script. Now she needs the perfect actor, and she knows exactly who she wants to get: award winner Antonio Blake. Unfortunately, Antonio was in an accident that resulted in the amputation of his arm and he has been a recluse for the 5 years since the accident. The part is not only perfect for Antonio acting finesse, but the main character is also missing an arm.

By some grace of heaven, Karina has convinced Antonio to take the part but when they get it the last section of filming he bolts. Not only has he put the movie in jeopardy, but Karina’s reputation is on the line; the studio took a big risk backing her as a fairly new director. This is her one shot: she’s an Anfrican American actress-turned-director, working with an African America writer and African American superstar - it’s her dream, and he’s going to ruin it.

She makes her way to Antonio’s retreat only to get stuck there, but it allows her to convince him to come back and finish the role. He’s having trouble coming to grip with being an amputee actor, showing his disability to the world. Karina shows him that he’s not the only one with disadvantages and his lack of an arm doesn’t make him any less of an actor.

^^^ if all that sounds intriguing, please go read or listen to the book. The story is pretty original (at least to me) and I love, love, love me a powerful woman.

I was not a huge fan of Antionio’s chosen nickname for Karina: Ugly. I don’t want to be called ugly, and don’t know anyone who really does. It definitely helps to paint what type rut Antonio is in emotionally.

Antonio has lost all of his self esteem, and we see his anger at himself leak out at every turn. He doesn’t let Karina (or us) forget his arm is gone - he mentions it a lot, which is a deep seeded issue for him that he isn’t good enough for anything or anyone since the accident. Again, his confidence is crazy gone. I think Just Bae’s writing abilities are good enough that he could’ve taken this a bit deeper to develop his character even more.

While this book is not overloaded with explicit sexual content, it does contain some. I loved the desperate back seat love making session that led to a silent drive home, and then literal silence between them. The longing and trying to act and be normal for weeks was fantastic.

I might have enjoyed this book a little bit more if the narration was tweaked a bit. Shaeffer Hughes’s voice is great, I could listen to him narrate again...as long as he could get away from all the extra pauses. It’s possible it was for dramatic effect, but it made it very choppy. I listened to the sample on amazon before I agreed to review but it must’ve been from a smoother section. Shaeffer Hughes voice though, could bring anyone out of a funk, it’s great.

She Got me: The Perfect Ending really has the perfect ending. It's binge-worthy for 5 hours straight. Antonio Blake and Karina made a pefect but imperfect couple. I love the steamy relationship they have. Great listen!
