Publisher's summary

Kidnapping, sex-trafficking, and betrayal in the islands.

J.R. Finn's daughter Abby disappeared from a beach resort in Antigua while on a semester break. Finn and Mary have just arrived in Antigua aboard Island Girl to relax between missions. They learn that Abby's missing when they see a poster in the Customs and Immigration office.

Finn has never met Abby; her mother divorced him while he was on a clandestine mission, over 20 years ago. He hasn't spoken to his ex-wife since he left on the mission, but he's followed his daughter's life from afar. Distressed, Finn calls his ex-wife and offers his help.

Join Finn and Mary in Antigua as they wreak havoc while looking for Abby and her roommate.

Another pause-resister in the J. R. Finn Series, Sharks and Prey is perfect for fans of mystery/thrillers set in the Caribbean.

Twists and turns!

Another well-written book by Charles Dougherty into the seedy world of greed and kidnapping.

David Bosco did a great job narrating and bringing the characters to life.

This Time iI's Personal

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is the eigth book in the JR Finn Sailing Mystery series. I am absolutely hooked. and highly recommend that you start with the first book in the series to really get into the characters and their development. Having said [written] that, this is a standalone story and the author does provide brief summaries of past events.

Finally, some of Finn's backstory is revealed and the mission in this story relates to Finn's past [no spoilers]. Great twists and action sequences. My favorite parts are always the investigations of Finn and Mary to get to the target.

The narrator, David Bosco, is the same throughout the series and is terrific.

Finn is back!!!!!

I am always excited when a new book in this series comes out. All of the books have been varying degrees of excellent and this book just ratchets up one more notch.

Finn's daughter is kidnapped and the bodies start dropping. To be fair, the people behind the kidnapping had no idea what they unleashed but Finn and Mary were on a mission. Loved it!!!!!

I listened to this book in one sitting and at the very satisfying end, I just wanted more.

The dynamic duo of Dougherty and Bosco are my super heroes!!

Even better

This one gets personal! Finns daughter is kidnapped. You know he’s not going to just sit by and do nothing. There are some twists and turns in this one (as with all of the series) that you may not see coming. Just how far will they have to go to get his daughter back, there are no limits!
I love this series. Finn and Mary are two of my favorite characters from this genre. Anyone who likes mystery, spies, sailing, murders, and really smart characters will love this too.
David Bosco is a brilliant narrator. I can’t imagine anyone else voicing Finn. He is amazing!

Family

I total enjoyed this book, my favorite so far as showed a softer side of Finn and Mary while involving family and still a lot of brutal action and good narration. I was given this free review copy audiobook and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU!

6/6. I love these books

This is the eighth book I have read/listened to by this author and I will jump to listen to every book in this series. I need to try one of his others series soon. This book is somewhat of a stand alone in that the issue at hand comes to a resolution by the end of the book and there are not many spots where it is assumed the listener/reader already knows what’s going on. To get the full effect of the story however, I think a listener/reader should start at book 1. It’s well worth the time for this thoroughly enjoying, captivating, unique series. I love how Finn and Mary don’t go in all Rambo style, unrealistically annihilating everything in their path. This series has subtlety and finesse. I also like how Finn and Mary aren’t invincible or omniscient. They are however, extremely resourceful and clever and have a team behind them. ———

This is the thirteenth book I have listened to by this narrator ( David Bosco ) and I would definitely listen to another. As I’ve said before, he is to Finn as Ian McKellan is to Gandalf. I have come to look forward to every book he narrates. He does use Sound FX for when people are having a phone conversation or Finn is talking to himself in his head. Generally I don’t like music or Sound FX. Often they seem thrown in for no particular reason other than the narrator falsely feels they need to add them to make the book interesting; or compete with or overpower the rest of the narration; and/or too loud and make listening to different volumes uncomfortable. This is not the case here. David Bosco uses his Sound FX appropriately and the volume is perfect. It makes the effects seem natural, not an afterthought or disruptive. He uses distinct voices for all the characters

There are no explicit sex scenes, there is a bit more described violence in this book but it is not gory, I don’t recall swearing. ———

Book 8 is great!

Another hit with me! There's never a boring moment in this series. This book is just as good if not better than books 1-7. Finn and Mary are such a good team and even though they don't always see things eye to eye, they manage to give each other what they need to work through it. Sometimes I wonder if they might get into an argument but they both know when not to push the other too much.
I love how these stories are unpredictable and the plot is always clearly explained. I say that because, at times, things get a bit technical and if there wasn't some sort of explanation, I would certainly be lost. This series is so interesting and well written. Book 8 has a few twists and turns I didn't see coming and it gave some new information on both Finn and Mary's backgrounds.
I get so excited when a new book in this series comes out but they sure wouldn't be the same for me if it wasn't for David Bosco. His narrations are always excellent. He is so easy to listen to, the characters are each done with distinct voices and he doesn't try to be overly dramatic. I can push play and let him take me on an adventure!

New friends

Once again Finn and Mary are making friends!! I learned something new with this book. Phones have ime? Numbers I honestly thought it was something in the mind of a writer but gps also have it. Anyway these guys make “friends” so easy they scare me. How have they gotten so many friends behind them and local police never suspect anything. Once again a well written story and narrative by Davis Bosco.
