Publisher's Summary

US law enforcement agent Heather Lane can read minds but not the future. The dream of battle and blood that recurs every night must be a fluke, some obscure terror from her own mind. What its significance might be, she can't guess: an attack from seven psychotic vampires at once, only separated from nightmare by an eighth very different immortal. A handsome, brave man fighting at her side, a man she misses when she wakes. Then the dream comes true. Heather is flung into a war between predators and protectors of humanity, with the man from her dreams beside her again. Except now that she's awake, she isn't sure that she can trust Ethan or the shadow organization he represents. The US military doesn't trust either of them. But against an onslaught of evil like the one that's coming, it will take everything they have just to survive....

Way to move to the next level!

Wow! Just wow! I waited over a year for this installment, and it was well worth the wait! We get to see the unfolding story of the Immortal Guardian Ethan, and his lady love Heather. There is plenty of action to make you become fully hooked into the story, and may cause you to want to listen in one sitting. That's pretty much what I did! We got to see what has been happening since the last battle with all those rouge vampires, and boy didn't they come back with a vengeance! Thank goodness there are those like Ethan, Seth, Roland, David, and all those kick ass ladies and seconds to put thing to right! Way to go Immortal Guardians! Five star rating all the way in my opinion! Nothing wrong with this book. Absolutely nothing!

Immortal Guardians are great, but not #6 :-(

I have adored this world since the first book, it is seriously one of my favorite series of all times, which is why I was really disappointed with this installment.

Maybe it was this is the story of Ethan, a barely 100 year old immortal. He is the one that had been sleeping with Lizette until Zach came along. I really liked that he found someone he could be with now that Lizette is taken but it was all too cookie cutter for my liking.

Is she a gifted one wasn't up for debate, and so many other things happened that just had me thinking this plot is just full of contrived drama for the sake of it, and I really dislike that in my books. One beloved character goes a bit wonky and we never find out of it's a permanent thing or not. Many new people are introduced and can't tell if they are trust worthy or not. Overall I was just sadly disappointed that it didn't feel like a real story, just a bunch of characters we know and love sitting around chatting...absolutely no point to most of it.

Kirsten Potter was still great of course, just sad to have waited this long for....blah!

series is slowing down

I have enjoyed this series of books, liked the characters and setting. I am finding that repetition of the setting and characters is getting redundant. This couple seems less interesting, however, and it seemed to me the action is slowing down, or again perhaps redundant.

hoping for something new from this author and narrator...

WOW-WOW-WOW... & HOW LONG 'TIL THE NEXT ONE?

What a brilliant series this is with it's never ending world building and growing suspense, tension-filled action scenes, twists and sigh-worthy romances which leave me in awe of Dianne Duvall's incredible vision to write such an imaginative world. A world where Rogue Vampires, Immortals, Elders, an Alien, Humans and 'Others' battle it out to either accomplish Armageddon or try to stop it and then she successfully manages to weave a powerful love story within the midst of conflict and danger. And, in Ethan and Heather's story, we get to witness the fights, the blood, the fangs, the danger, the passion, the sex, the slow layering of the plot and the intense commaradary between all the Guardians as they try to stop WWIII from happening at the manipulative hands of an enemy that can't be seen, sensed..... or perhaps even stopped.

New Alliances have been made, battles have been won and two lovely characters have found each other in humorous, tense, romantic and passion-filled chapters. But the War is far from over and I hope it lasts and lasts and lasts because there are so many loveable characters who are all in desperate need of a mate of their own to accompany them through their lonely immortality made up with constant fighting. One of the best things about this book is that the story brings all the Guardian characters into the fight so it's a joint effort from well loved characters we've already met in previous books or the new and fresh ones willing to choose sides and take up weapons to help in the bloody fight which creates such a multi-layered story.

There's no question that Dianne Duvall is a maestro at PNR and she must rank very highly in this genre for giving us such descriptive, imaginative and complex stories. However, for me, Kirsten Potter's narration of the very varied and vast amount of characters, the gripping chapters and the romantic scenes were all transformed and brought to life by her so, in my head, I could easily picture all the action up close and personal like my very own mental movie. And that's the magic, the glue and the missing essential ingredient that so many of us listens have to suffer through in lesser listens because the choice of narrator can transform fine print into fireworks if the right one is picked..... and, in this case, they've picked the perfect person.

Worth a credit? It has it all.... the wows, the ahhhs, the eeeks, the gasps, the sighs and the wtf moments are all gloriously housed within this listen which was a joy to lose myself in. So, YEAH every one of these books from this series have been creditworthy and this one's no exception.

The Good, Bad and the REALLY REALLY BAD

Where does Shadows Strike rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love this series so it ranks in my top 3

What other book might you compare Shadows Strike to and why?

The other Immortal Guardian books.

Which character – as performed by Kirsten Potter – was your favorite?

I do love Seth but, I think Aiden is my new favorite! Love, Love his personality and his accent!! The fact he is enlisting help to find a potential gifted one to love him is endearing! I want to hug him :)

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was on the edge of my seat because the action in this book is non stop and the twists are just everywhere. I did laugh at the big, tough Immortals trying to figure out what to do with a sweet baby.

Any additional comments?

This series is great. Anyone that loves action, some serious kick ass characters and some hard earned HEA...this is for you.

Skip This One

I like this series but #6 is weak in narration and story. I deleted if after only 5 1/2 chapters.

The plot is expanding. Very interesting!

The latest book on the Immortal Guardians series is adding more new characters and it's becoming very challenging. Seth has his hands full with a very dangerous enemy. The whole world is in great danger of being destroyed by a rogue elder. Looking forward to the next book.

Another awesome read..

Any additional comments?

I was a little concerned at the beginning of this book because Ethan and Heather, after their battle with the 7 vampires, seemed to be gushing over each other like teenagers, but I knew it would change and it would become all I was hoping it would be. I mean, really? How could I have forgotten Zach and Lisette, Seth, David, Bastian and Melanie, and that sweetheart Cliff, and all the others? (I do hope they find a way to help Cliff.)

The meeting between General Lane and his soldiers, and Seth, Zach, David, Ethan and Heather in the field was both amazing and funny. They just kept doing stuff to prove who and what they were to the General.

The exciting battles that happen in this book was just amazing. One minute Ethan and Heather and Zach and Lisette are swing dancing and the next all hell’s breaking loose. Everyone seems to be preparing for all-out war. Then another battle, that was super exciting. Then the 3 simultaneous battles. Whew! It’s just all so exciting from the beginning to the end. I hate the wait for the next book but they’re worth it. I do hope Aiden gets his story soon. I feel so sorry for him. You’d think after three thousand years he’d find him a nice girl and settle down. LOL..

The sex was pretty exciting, too.

Because it makes me crazy that every single romance has one thing in common, from now on, I’m going to mention the heroine biting her lip. Worrying her lip. Chewing at her lip or nibbling at her lip, or doing whatever to her lip. Someone bit their lip 18 times.

As to the narrator: I doubt very much if could listen to an Immortal Guardians book if it was not narrated by Kirsten Potter. She has Seth's, David's and Zach's voices down so pat it's amazing. Their inflections, their accents, their emotions. I love all the voices she does but those 3 are the most important voices in the entire series'. If the time comes that she can't narrate one of the books Ms. Duvall might as well not have it on audio.
