What happens when a good family man returns from war with PTSD? This dilemma is as old as war itself. and thousands of families are affected every time the conflict rages. Shadows Of War details what happened to the author’s family following World War Two. It is a story of tragedy and triumph, and of conflict and resolution. Follow the journey as the author shares the details of his family's struggles.

In February 1946, the author's father, Private First Class Ralph Carl Allen, returned home from World War II. He had fought in the Philippine battle for Luzon and like thousands of young men, had seen the carnage of that bloody war. Suffering from PTSD, he was not the same man who went off to war, and nothing would ever be the same again.

Unable to forget what he had seen and done in the jungles of the South Pacific, and with no real treatment available for veterans suffering from PTSD at the time, his torment would affect three blended families with a total of nine children. Coping skills would be put to the test by all involved and some fared better than others, but everyone would be affected by what happened as Ralph Allen struggled with the ghosts of war that haunted him.
