Most PIs chase bad guys. Astrid Knightstorm chases demons.

Astrid Knightstorm handles the cases other private investigators can't. When your clients have fangs, claws, or magical abilities, you need someone who understands their world. Being a tough-as-nails Texan doesn't hurt, either. But when the Vatican hires her for a job that leads to a three-headed dragon, she realizes she's facing her deadliest challenge yet.

A dark alchemist has stolen an ancient artifact capable of manipulating time itself, and he's using it to settle a centuries-old vendetta that could unravel reality. As the trail leads from Rome to London, Astrid must rely on unlikely allies, including a fae assistant and a werewolf, to stop a power that threatens to destroy everything she's sworn to protect.

Some cases are about finding the truth. This one is about saving the world.

Shadowed Relics is the first book in the electrifying Knightstorm Arcane Investigations urban fantasy series. Perfect for fans of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, Patricia Briggs, and Ilona Andrews, this fast-paced adventure features a snarky wizard detective, supernatural mysteries, and a world where Magick hides in plain sight.

I am not really much of a fan for the First Person Present tense PoV … and it seemed like the uninspiring narration didn’t help there at all with limited character differences as well as the unrealistic and often over the top emotive dialog (arrogant bad guys are an extremely over used trope). Still … the premise was so promising, I really wanted to like the book … I just couldn’t. Way too my telling/exposition and not enough showing/action was a huge flaw. Along with that, the personal drama just wasn’t that interesting and threatened to over whelm the plot at times … which comes across more mechanical than inspired … devoid of humor (black or otherwise).

I was given this free advance review/listener copy (ARC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
