Publisher's summary

When I met Ryan, I might’ve been trying to break into his basement.

It was for a good cause. I swear. Also, my dog broke in first.

Ryan Blake is jaw-dropping handsome, wealthy, and cocky. Not quite my type. By some miracle, he doesn’t call the police on me when he catches me trying to rescue my dog. He even fetches a doctor for me. Don’t ask why.

I don’t figure I’ll see him again. Then, I do. Then, he kisses me. Once. Twice. Is three times the charm? To be honest, I swooned at the first kiss.

All swooning aside, we are seriously opposites. I wear cowboy boots and skirts. He wears suits and ties. He’s all New York City. I’m a Southern girl looking for a new start. We even talk at different speeds.

The list of things I don’t expect from Ryan is long. I don’t expect him to think twice about me. I don’t expect him to nearly bring me to my knees with a look. I don’t expect him to be so much more than I ever imagined.

I absolutely don’t expect to fall for him. So hard I’m skidding sideways just to catch my balance.

MEH.. IT’S OKAY

If you’re looking for a sweet, easy-going, mild, no-angst, insta-romance between a cold Billionaire and a charmingly friendly Southern belle from New Orleans who instantly changes him - then happy listening. And, with Jason and Summer expertly narrating the dual POV, it is an easy listen as these two kindred spirits connect and reveal similar emotional scars made by their absentee fathers now both dead. But, if you’re looking for layers, a slow-build, character growth, hot n heavy sex scenes, intrigue, mystery, suspense or palpable sizzles then perhaps look elsewhere.. because even the hiccup in the relationship was mild.

Worth a credit? Thankfully I didn’t use one because it’s a free Audible Escape offer.. but if I had, I personally would’ve wanted more alpha bad boy, some drama to the story and something to get my pulse pounding.

Not Cocky - NY workaholic warms to New Orleans gal

Unfortunately, this was advertised as part of the Cocky Heroes Club, a collection of books in the spirit of Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. Those ladies tend to write about wealthy, alpha males who are lovably cocky. There’s usually sassy conflict and naughty, explicit sex. So, between the Cocky Heroes Club moniker and the Keeland/Ward stamp of approval, I was disappointed to find Sexy Suits to be a tame, mostly sweet romance.

The only excitement in the book came in the opening scene, with Addi breaking into Ryan’s house in pursuit of her lost dog. Beyond that, no humor, no fireworks, and no cocky man... just a workaholic who approaches romance as just another business transaction. Without any cocky friction, Ryan was simply cold and controlled. There’s a minor misunderstanding in an attempt to build some emotion through conflict, but really this is just a long stroll from their meet-cute to their HEA.

Within a 6.5 hr book, it takes half way through to get more than a kiss or two. There’s 1 hanky panky scene and 1 full on sex scene. I liked the dual narration. I liked the male narrator and was alright with the female narrator’s rendition of a New Orlean’s “southern” accent, although it was a bit slow. Perhaps due to the tame story, I found myself distracted by how many times Ryan thought about how “they’re nothing alike” and how many times Ryan “swallowed audibly” or Addi “clenched” when Ryan said something. For such a short book, there were a lot a repeated phrases.

I might have enjoyed it more if I wasn’t expecting a sassy, “cocky” ride. At least I just borrowed it; I would have been upset to have paid for this mislabeled romance. I bumped the narration up to 1.3x to get through and never quite got past warm feelings for this couple.

Southern Accent Does Not Equal New Orleans Accent

The story was okay. When there was 1 hour and 47 minutes left I skipped ahead. I just got bored with h constantly referring to the father she didn't know and putting all of her fears on H when he hadn't done anything to make her think he was going to treat her like her father treated her mother. Even her mother told her to give him a chance and that she was wrong in teaching her not to trust men in a relationship. Of course she didn't listen and the last part of the book was drawn out.

H didn't have much of a personality but Jason Clarke was the sexy voice and I couldn't help but to listen. Summer Roberts did a nice job of narrating but she has to study the New Orleans creole accent. It's not a generic southern accent. She made her character sound like she was from a small town in Texas not the heart of New Orleans.

Story was blah. No real tension or palpable passion. It was a nice story and their backstories with their father's was more interesting.

Not sure why this is part of the Cocky world

Male character really isn't all that cocky....really doesn't have much of a personality at all. Female character much better and both characters were voiced well by narrators. Story was okay. I didn't have an issue as I was cleaning while listening. It was more like background noise then a book that you really want to listen to.

Cute!

Nothing special, but a relaxing read. Didn't quite hold my attention with anything that might be memorable later. Although, I think the performance itself was great.

Ryan and Addie

A captivating, sensual, and heartwarming story. Ryan and Addie are opposites, but you know what they say.. opposites attract. Their chemistry was palpable, and their connection was undeniable. I adored this story.
Jason Clarke, enough said! (He’s perfection!)
Summer Roberts was wonderful.

Opposites Attract Romance

I just love it when the man falls hard first.
They are both emotionally damaged and very opposite.
Can they make it work or is it going to fail before it really starts.
Standalone with no Cliffhangers.

Fun listen!

This is my first book from J.H. Croix and I loved it. Addie and Ryan meet while she is trying to break into his house to get her dog and the attraction is immediate. I enjoyed this fun steamy insta-love story. I really enjoyed the narration by Jason Clarke and Summer Roberts. Jason is a favorite and was great in this book, Summer is new to me and I really enjoyed her performance. Definitely recommend this story!

Amazing story!

I loved every minute of this fun and sexy read with engaging characters you feel like you know and want to be friends with them and a beautifully written story that I couldn't put down! I really liked Addie Castille who grew up in New Orleans and moves to New York City when her great aunt left her estate including a brownstone. I enjoyed her dynamic and sizzling chemistry with billionaire Ryan Blake, handsome and reserved owner of Talton Tech Industries. J.H. Croix is one of my favorite authors and she never disappoints whatsoever.
