Publisher's Summary

New York Times best seller

There are no rules in the dark, no place to feel safe, no escape from the shadows. But to save the day, you must seize the night.

At no time does Moonlight Bay look more beautiful than at night. Yet it is precisely then that the secluded little town reveals its menace. Now children are disappearing. From their homes. From the streets. And there’s nothing their families can do about it. Because in Moonlight Bay, the police work their hardest to conceal crimes and silence victims. No matter what happens in the night, their job is to ensure that nothing disturbs the peace and quiet of Moonlight Bay.

Christopher Snow isn’t afraid of the dark. Forced to live in the shadows because of a rare genetic disorder, he knows the night world better than anyone. He believes the lost children are still alive and that their disappearance is connected to the town’s most carefully kept, most ominous secret - a secret only he can uncover, a secret that will force him to confront an adversary at one with the most dangerous darkness of all: the darkness inside the human heart.

Fantastic book, horrible narrator..

I originally listened to this book and the fist book in the series "Fear Nothing" as narrated by Keith Szarabajka and they were wonderful. Why someone felt the need to have them narrated a second time by John Glouchevitch I do not know. Unfortunately, his narration of the series is dry, and his character voices are bland. In fact they are down right awful. Once you have heard the version by Keith Szarabajka, you just cannot stand the narration by John Glouchevitch.

I wish there was more. It is great!

I really liked this book. It is the sequel to Fear Nothing and I wish there was a third. I think there could be more in store for Chris Snow and his friends, I hope Mr. Koontz decides to indulge us further.

Disappointed

What was this, why on earth would a writer find it necessary to recap story events in every single chapter. The protagonist suffers from the rare (but real) disease called XP (xeroderma pigmentosum) a fact that is restated over and over again, Ad nauseam. The characters that showed promise in the first book were not allowed to develop, they remain one dimensional. Sad, restatement of first book, where's the story development.

Too Much Rehashing, mediocre narration, good story

If you're reading book 2, you don't need the author to give you the back story for all the main characters from book 1 all over again. There is also so much precious text wasted catching the reader up on things from the first booked besides the backstories. Why? I think some of it was literally copy pasted from the first book. Am I going to go have to hear it all again in book 3? It seems like a cheap way for the publisher to charge top dollar for what is purported to be a full novel that is about 25% just rehash of the first novel. I am disappointed in that aspect of this book. Other than that, great story. Koontz really expanded the weird factor of this whole story with this novel. It's a shame he hasn't put out book three in twenty years but the same thing happened with The Dark Tower series so I won't hold that against him. This series has the potential for way more than three books if he so desires to write them. Lastly, I wish he would have used the narrator from book 1. This guy is good. But the guy from book 1 was exceptional when it comes to giving life to characters from California Pacific Coast towns.

Hard to follow. Narrator hard to listen to. I listen to a book a week. Couldn’t make it halfway through.

Great audiobook, masterfully executed.

I read the book series first, so I had high expectations. I have absolutely no complaints, very well executed audiobook.

Frustratingly brilliant 2nd book

Great performance, fantastic story and compelling characters. Frustrating because Koontz still hasn't written the 3rd book. Aargh. Having said this the 1st book Fear Nothing and this book are well worth a listen.

Excellent

I found this audible book fantastic, gripping, scary at times atmospheric, I just hope we get and ending to this trilogy as there were so many things left up in the air! But if not I still highly recommend.
