Publisher's summary

An 80s girl in a modern world.

Sloane would rather curl up with a John Hughes movie than walk the halls of Grover High. However, all of that is about to change because on the first day of school she runs into none other than Mr. Sixteen Candles himself, Jake Ryan.

Okay, he's not really Jake Ryan, but Gabe has the khakis, sports car, and trademark charm to fit the role.

Sloane hopes to pull a Molly Ringwald and win him over with her quirky sense of humor and even quirkier fashion sense, but what she doesn't know is that she and her seemingly untouchable celebrity crush have a lot more in common than they think.

Seeking Jake Ryan is the first in a series of romantic comedies centering around everybody's favorite 80s movies.

Fun idea with 80’s references

Young adult romance with teenage drama. Yet the book touches on topics about parental loss and healing. The book is about a average girl that has feelings for a popular rich boy. The rich boy also has feelings for her yet he is in a relationship that he doesn’t want. They both have to determine what it is that they want and what they are willing to sacrifice for a chance for something real.

80's Flashback

Seeking Jake Ryan is a wonderfully written book by M.F. Lorain and Jessica Bucher and is my first experience with the two authors writting as a duo. The story centers on Sloane, a huge John Hughes and Molly Ringwald fan, as she tries to catch her own Jake, all while trying to survive high school.

The book is loosly based on one of my favorite teen movies, Sixteen Candles, and reminded me of my youth. I listened to it over the course of a few evenings with my teenaged daughter. We both loved the story and the narration done by Joyce Oven was very well done. I would definitely recommend this book to others and I am going to continue on to next next book in the series with my daughter as my listening partner.

Cute 80’s story

Seeking Jake Ryan is a cute 80’s throwback story based on Sixteen Candles. It’s a sweet, clean romance book that makes you wish to get back in high school again.

Cute

I just love the premise of it all, being an 80s lady and I like YA romance but it was just okay for me. cute And well done story for the young folks.

Perfect for fans of John Hughes' movies

I loved this modern first love story with plenty of 80's nostalgia. If you love a heartwarming clean love story , this book is for you.

Back to the 80s!!!

What a cute story!!

This is a modern day Sixteen Candles with some Ferris Bueller thrown in (one of my favorite movies). I loved how the main character was named Sloane. Gabe‘s grand gesture is swoon worthy.

The narrator was awesome. Easy to listen to and both Sloane’s and Gabe’s voices were distinguishable. I’m looking forward to the next book (hoping for possibly a Landon story especially after the prologue)

Overall, if you love sweet romance mixed with great 80s nostalgia, this is your book!

Five out of five Molly Ringwalds

This book filled me with giddy enjoyment. I was alive in the 80s, but too young to be allowed to watch Molly Ringwald. She was this icon of what I wanted to be as a teen. Sixteen candles is still my favorite of her movies as well.
Sloane and Gage where is cute as any John Hughes movie character. I loved their slow burn angst.
This why a novel was written for the young adult still inside of 80s girls.
The narrator gave the perfect voice to a story about an 80s icon. Excellent work!

Quirky fun.

Given that I was in high school in the 80s, I find it funny to read a story of teenagers who enjoy all things from that era. But this was a lot of fun to read even though there were some serious themes to it as well. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more books in the series.

Sweet

Seeking Jake Ryan is a cute YA that has a great flow and kept me interested throughout. I adored all of the 80’s references...most girls of the 80’s dreamed of some of those scenes playing out in real life. The narrator gave a nice performance and is very pleasant to listen to.
