Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

An exciting romance thriller
Two people meet on a rainy London night, one a professional champion fighter, the other a Scotland Yard/Interpol Inspector. Both have secrets they are keeping from the other. A novel grabbing the reader and not letting go until the very end. Continuous action and unexpected directions taken keep attention on the story. Love this author! The audio version is well done adding to the interest. I received this free and am gladly voluntarily writing a review.

This will keep you guessing and listening!
Give me romantic suspense and I am a happy camper. Emma Calin is a new author to me, and I am glad to have listened to this gem. The thing that caught me from the start is that is stars a very strong female lead. Anna Leyton is not only beautiful, but she is smart and full of energy. When she meets Freddie, the chemistry is there, but an a deeper connection is immediate felt. Many times this kind of relationship feels forced, but Calin has written the story so well that it feels believable. The next thing you know, Anna is assigned a case and who is the person she needs to watch? This action packed story takes us all over the world and keeps you guessing with a whodunnit feel. As it progresses, I didn't feel any closer to the answers to the questions she was looking into which I loved. Books like this are a pleasure, they make you think and keep you on the edge. And the romance between these two is steamy! A win win for me!
With the strong woman, we need a strong female narrator. This is my first listen of Rebecca McKernan. I enjoyed her accents, but at times her voice was a little harsh. I do think her overall performance had a good pace and her voices for the characters easily distinguished and understandable.

Enjoyable read
My fifth read/listen from author Emma Calin, my first that was not a short story. 228 pages, but it reads longer because of the detail woven into its depths. An enjoyable read, I'll be reading more by her after this book! Narrator Rebecca McKernan’s talented narration & Brutish accent adds greatly to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Love Is Like The Eiffel Tower
One can always count on author Emma Calin for a "hot" heroine and hotter hero from whom smoke and steam arise. Gangsters, sports, and gambling are at the center of this thriller with the best of Scotland Yard, Surete, Interpol and FBI pitted against international bad guys. As narrated by Rebecca McKernan one is swept into the action as personal and corporate politics entangle themselves with fast-moving drama with a little Jane Bond thrown in.

Well written and emotionally driven
The perfomance of the story is what kept me in the game. The fact that a cop would give herself away, well I know it's human, but its against my sense of right and wrong. This story is emotionally driven and that's what makes the audio version very good.

One switched on Cop, meets her match!
A chance meeting, each concealing a different motive for a few minutes grabbed together. But, it wasn't enough. for either of them.
Each could loose a lot, but the attraction was far too strong.
WOW!! What a story, made so much more through the grating Londoner accent of the narrator.

Anna & Freddie
This book was about a police Inspector assigned to a Metropolitan Police Task Force which is working with Interpol to bring down Mobsters and Crooked Sports Personalities prior to the London Olympics of 2012. Anna has left a cushy life where she could work for her family business, Layton Marine selling Luxury Yachts. She has worked her way up to the rank of Inspector which has not all been smooth sailing. Her ex-lover, who dropped her like a hot potato when she was the subject of an inquiry is leading this Task Force but heaven only knows why because he comes across as a toady fool!
Freddie is a boxer, he is also World Champion with a fight looming in the States. They literally bump into each other one evening when they both hail the same taxi which they end up sharing. She has no idea who he is and wants to chat with this attractive man without him knowing she's a police officer as this puts a lot of people off.
The attraction between these two is instant and hot and soon leads to more but as Freddie is part of her investigation how far can this attraction go? Well without giving spoilers I really can't say but it was an enjoyable read/ listen.
I purchased the book and then downloaded the audio version and my review is written voluntarily.

Romantic Suspense
I'm not sure why, but I had a hard time getting into this story. It actually was pretty good but I think the accent made it hard for me to comprehend. It moved along at a good pace and wasn't boring. One chance encounter changed a lot for her!
Okay, it seems one glance was enough for both our main characters, but fate and circumstances had a lot to do to allow the relationship to flourish.
As airchair voyeurs, we Travis the globe, watching and experiencing young love blossom. The rhetoric is a bit flowery in places, but this isn't my thoughts but that of brave English lass, who gave away wealth, to work as a cop on the tough London streets.
Freddie, our protagonist, art lover and
one hunk of a man, is the ideal match for our brash, beautiful cop.
However, there are potholes in the road of love, and these two both have there own secrets. Read the author's story for them, it is vivid and alive.
The narrator allows us to appreciate the fast pace of the tale, doing a marvelous job of creating the visual pictures that writer intended.
