When it comes to money, are you controlled by fear? Do you underestimate your worth? Are you ready to go to the next level, but can't seem to get there? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be an underearner. Underearners are self-saboteurs who don't live up to their earnings potential, says Barbara Stanny, a financial educator, motivational speaker, and career counselor. The good news is that underearning is a self-imposed condition. By focusing on overcoming it, underearners will not only earn what they deserve, but live a richer life.

Publisher's Summary
Quietly and steadily, the number of women making six figures or more is increasing and continues to rise at a rate faster than for men. From entrepreneurs to corporate executives, from white-collar professionals to freelancers and part-timers, women are forging careers with considerable financial success.
In Secrets of Six-Figure Women, Barbara Stanny, journalist, motivational speaker, and financial educator, identifies the seven key strategies of female high earners: Profit Motive, Audacity, Resilience, Encouragement, Self-Awareness, Non-Attachment, and Financial Know-How.
Based on extensive research and hundreds of interviews, including more than 150 women whose annual earnings range from $100,000 to $7 million, Stanny turns each of the six-figure traits into a specific strategy for upping earnings. By rigorously fine-tuning them, listeners can, step-by-step, climb the income ladder.

Loved it
Although, now I think six-figures is a bit limiting! Can we have an updated edition titled, “Secrets of Seven-Figure Women”?? In all seriousness, this audiobook entered my life at an opportune time—when I decided to leave law firm life (where I was terribly undervalued and not appreciated at all) to branch off and start my own solo practice! I will be referencing this book for many years to come, I’m sure. Hopefully, one day I’ll have a legal practice run by powerful, compassionate, and ambitious women!

Life Changing
What made the experience of listening to Secrets of Six-Figure Women the most enjoyable?
The book helped me look deep inside myself to discover the reasons why I am under earning. It helped to uncover experienceces as a child... that had a negative psychological impact on how I viewed money and what I thought I was capable of. Now that I know my debilitating issues, I can address them head on. Change starts from within, a mental shift is essential for any women to achieve her highest potential.

Only 3 star because of unnecessary god references
What did you like best about Secrets of Six-Figure Women? What did you like least?
I overall really enjoyed this book, to the point that I downloaded the kindle version to have access to some of the thought provoking questions. But the frequent religious references were so irritating. Here was a book about how women can tap into their own power and intentions without dependence on men. Well, except god. Yeah, I worked my ass off, I made sacrifices, I did it in spite of the internalized messages from parents or unsupportive men, but I got there because I prayed to a god?? Oh please. Delete these ridiculous and insulting passages and the book is wonderful and inspirational. Oh, and the frequent references to the "ghetto" made me cringe. Apparently, every time she refers to low income or minority populations, she describes them as coming from the "ghetto". Ugh! Stop it Barbara, I live in NYC, I'm in my late 50s and we haven't used the word "ghetto" since my grandfather's generation.
If you’ve listened to books by Barbara Stanny before, how does this one compare?
First one.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Narrator was okay.
Was Secrets of Six-Figure Women worth the listening time?
Overall yes. I don't think I'd listen or read any other books by her, but I did gain some insight from this one, and it did make me think about the ways I approach my career.
Any additional comments?
Summary: Overall thought provoking book. At times sounded dated but had some interesting data from her interviews.
I wish she would refrain from using the word "ghetto" every time she referred to low income populations but the MAIN REASON this only got 3 stars was because of the completely unnecessary religious references.

Irrelevant to the modern woman.
I struggled to finish. Information is outdated. The stories are almost repetitive. Example: Relationships should be relationships in general. Tried way to hard to make a point about lesbian relationships. Relationships in general would have been just fine.

Disempowering, limited to corporate world
I really wanted to like this book, and I tried so hard to, but there were SO many reminders of the glass ceiling, women being paid less than men, more money being harder work and more stress, that it really just left me deflated. Im sure (I’m hoping) the author was trying fo talk about these things as non-truths in a way to empower the reader, but I was more disempowered than anything.
It also seemed to be very specific to the corporate world rather than the entrepreneurial world, so it wasn’t what I was expecting, but maybe it would be more helpful to those in the corporate world (I am not), maybe, hopefully.
Couldn’t finish it.

Some good points but painfully dated
Many examples are obviously outdated. It goes to show that much has happened in 20 years. Also, the misappropriation of the infamous Marianne Williamson quote to Nelson Mandela is unnecessary. It's been years, and it can be corrected.

Story
In her work with countless powerful, successful women over the last 20 years, best-selling author and financial educator Barbara Stanny found that most women's problems with money have little to do with money itself, but rather their fear of or ambivalence toward power. Story
