Publisher's Summary

Mistborn: Secret History is a companion story to the original Mistborn trilogy.

As such, it contains huge spoilers for the books Mistborn (The Final Empire), The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages. It also contains very minor spoilers for the book The Bands of Mourning

Mistborn: Secret History builds upon the characterisation, events and worldbuilding of the original trilogy. Listening to it without that background will be a confusing process at best.

In short, this isn't the place to start your journey into Mistborn (though if you have listened to the trilogy - but it has been a while - you should be just fine, so long as you remember the characters and the general plot of the books).

Saying anything more here risks revealing too much. Even knowledge of this story's existence is, in a way, a spoiler.

There's always another secret.

Excellent book. Highly recommend for Cosmere fans+

This book is amazing. It gives great insight into what Kelsier was doing after his death, between what he was doing before he pops back up in other stories. ******* SPOILER FOR RHYTHEM OF WAR ******* Kelsier has shown up on Roshar, the Stormlight Archive world. He is the leader of the ghost bloods and seems to be working towards something grand (more grand than ascending to a God it seems). I really hope that Brandon ends up writing secret history parts 2 and 3, because I'd love to know how he finally gets off Scadrial and whether or not he interacts with Hoid some more.

Good story and performance but some voices changed

Great book! Can't recommend if you haven't at least read the first 3 books of mistborn. A bit of a shame that zaesid and spook's voices and accents changed

Short and good

This story adds another dimension to the mistborn world. I enjoyed this new layer. Plus it does add new concepts and explanations.

dissapointed it's not new!

Not to detract from the story or the narrator at all, but as i have listened to the arcanum unbounded, this is one of the short stories within that book! kinda feel that should have been stated in the description, would have saved me getting my hopes up for something new!

This isn’t new, it’s just all the mistborn stories from Arcanum unbounded

I love Brandon Sanderson as a writer, but this is the 2nd time I feel I’ve been misled into purchasing a book that I technically already own. The same happened with edge dancer. It should be more clearly displayed that these 2 books are just the stories from Arcanum Unbounded. So just purchase that book & you’ll get this book, edge dance & other short stories in 1 purchase

Kelsier's hidden role throughout.

Brandon Sanderson was first introduced to me by a very good friend who literally said to me "Bob you like Raymond. E. Fiests books because of the magic" yes I do, then he said "this guys characters ingest metals to give them powers" preposterous notion I thought but he got me, it works unbelievably well. If like me you've read any of the mistborn series, you'll keep asking yourself "but what if kelsier didn't...." just as I thought, there are sky fairies (gods) at play and even better they are part of something MUCH bigger and not just in mistborn, warbreaker series and throughout as I've been told by my friend who is now waiting for Mr Sanderson to release the next installments. This helps to understand more in Kelsier's role throughout mistborn as well as introduce you to some of the gods such as 'fuzz' there brilliant games and mysterious plans which only get deeper, twistier and darker the more you read. My hat goes off to you Mr Sanderson, you've created a fantastic world, characters, creatures, gods and places that painted such a brilliant picture in my minds eye, thank you so very much and please continue to do so good sir.

Loved it, but kinda sad

I loved it!! But it didn't really answer any questions about Bands of Mourning. If anything, it brought up more. It also made me kinda emotional as it was kinda sad with Vin & Kelsier near the end

What a hidden gem!!! Only 5 hours long, and I’m always hesitant buying small books (bang for buck and all). But oh my lord ruler! This is a must if you have read the mistborn trilogies!!

Good taste of what was to come

Good taste of what was to come, but was quite a short read! A little harder to follow if your listening while doing other things and I found myself rewinding a few times 😅 Overall it was a great little story if your missing the Mistborn world and looking for more!

Lovely book, by a brilliant writer

The thing with the Mistborn Series and most of Sanderson's work is the interesting mechanics he uses to tell his narrative. Altering normal conventions of magic to bring in the fantasy elements and then combining it with a well thought out universe including afterlife is no easy task. However as always Sanderson excels at just that. A good story, well written and well spoken. Thanks guys!
