Publisher's summary

Despite years on the run, Sophie Neumann is determined to care for two young children. She won't abandon them the way she thinks her older sisters abandoned her. But times are growing desperate, and when she falls in with the wrong crowd and witnesses a crime, she realizes fleeing 1850s New York is her only option.

Disappearing with her two young charges into a group of orphans heading west by train, Sophie hopes to find safety and a happy life. When the train stops in Illinois for the first placement of orphans, Sophie faces the most difficult choice of her life.

Reinhold Weiss has finally purchased his own small farm. With mounting debts, a harvest to bring in, and past scars that haunt him, he's in no position to give his heart away...but can he say no when his long-lost friend shows up on a nearby train pleading for his help?

Inspirational

The strong female characters each find God’s love and healing despite tremendous adversity. The supportive male characters in the story was refreshing.

Great Series!

Speed up the narration to 1.4 and it's fine.

This was a great series. This third book in particular was sometimes hard to listen to. Three main character was so filled with self loathing and insecurities. However, she let go and let God work it out and the story is beautiful.

Yayy, there’s happy endings for children

Liked the strong characters and forgiveness for each other and for
Euphemia’s character.
Little bit much on the physical attraction details.

Love the Jody Hedlund books!

The innocent romance, suspense, character development, historical references, and faith unfailingly holds my attention, beckoning me to want to know what happens next. My favorite author to listen to on a long drive! Love, love all the characters' journeys toward God. Totally heart warming and often tear jerking for me. 🥰

Orphan Train

This entire series spoke to my heart about the many hardships the immigrant families and children had to endure. Jodi has a special way of incorporating many twists and surprises to her novels always keeping the stories interesting until the very end. She is one of my favorite authors.

Love the story

I love the story, however the narrator is very sing song and nasal. It’s the only thing I didn’t like about everything. Great writing.

Annoying narration

Story was okay, and held my interest, but the narrator irritated me with her emphasis on the wrong words. I don’t understand why someone would read that way.

Disappoiting

This 3rd book in the trilogy had a great plot and wonderful characters, but the story was written in a way I found disappointing. There was a lot of filler in the areas of rehearsing the insecurities and uncertainties of the main characters over and over. I get really weary of insecure characters when that aspect dominates the story. The other dominating aspect was an overabundance of tantalizing detail and building sexual tension. I wanted to hear more about their story, but it just kept going back to insecurity and descriptions designed to inspire lust. As a Christian author, I think she crossed the line with too much physical detail. There were so many aspects to the story which could have been further developed rather than filling it in with these things. It detracted from the story itself. I thought the long-awaited event near the end was disjointed and took an odd, dissatisfying turn.
