Publisher's summary

By day, Viv Franklin is a tough-as-nails software engineer who designs programs and loves hospital corners. By night, Vivian’s a secret romance-novel junkie who longs for a knight in shining armor, or a cowboy on a wild stallion, or a strapping firefighter to sweep her off her feet. And she gets to wear the bodice - don’t forget the bodice.

When a phone call brings news that she’s inherited a beautiful old home in Mendocino, California from a long-forgotten aunt, she moves her entire life across the country to embark on what she sees as a great, romance-novel-worthy adventure. But romance novels always have a twist, don’t they?

There’s a cowboy, one that ignites her loins. Because Cowboy Hank is totally loin-ignition worthy. But there’s also a librarian, Clark Barrow. And he calls her Vivian. Can tweed jackets and elbow patches compete with chaps and spurs? You bet your sweet cow pie.

In Screwdrivered, Alice Clayton pits Superman against Clark in a hilarious and hot battle that delights a swooning Viv/Vivian. Also within this audiobook, an answer to the question of the ages: Why ride a cowboy when you can ride a librarian?

Wallbanger fans, skip this!!

This book is, perhaps, the biggest disappointment of the year. Wallbanger is one if my top 3 reads of all time. This book was boring, crude, had a super annoying, unlikeable heroine, and had no chemistry between the H & h. With one hour left in the book, Viv was still wanting the cowboy. This read more like Chick Lit. The romance was lacking tremendously. I didn't care what happened to them by the end. :-( The narrator was pretty good. She is too breathy, though.

Life is a Romance Novel?

This one was a choice made by my girl Sasha being as she's into the author. I'm okay with the redhead series in general and this; the cocktail series has some high points, this being 1 of them for the most part. My major issue with this piece of fiction was the whole "my life is a romance novel" crap that Viv talked for most of the book. There was also way too many detours into romance fiction cliches and breathless narration. The whole "I want a badboy" theme is one of the lamest ideas that ever entered a straight girl's mind. Too many of my girls have tried to effect that sort of transformation in some bad*** wannabe or loser; only to end up brokenhearted when; surprise, the dude doesn't change. As a female who does the bad girl thing I can tell you that I'm not changing. In the end of course the crazy lady gives up on it and ends up with the right guy, and they all live happily ever after.

not a big fan of the narrater

It seems like a great book, but the narrator wasn''t my cup of tea and a bit too theatrical for my taste

Sidesplitting Funny & Quirky Romance!

This spinoff from Wallbanger was hilarious! Viv, the cowboy, and the sexy librarian totally had me cracking up chapter after chapter. If you like to root for the underdog, this is the quirky romance novel for you! It's totally different than Wallbanger, but, very much the same in that you will fall head over heels for Alice Clayton books. It's more or less a stand alone book even though it's advertised as book 3 in a series. I highly recommend this one as a credit worthy purchase.

Part of series but can be read as standalone

Parts of this were a bit over the top but overall this was pretty funny. Lots of humorous jabs at romance book plots. Viv lives in her romance books so when she inherits a home in California she encounters a Fabio look alike cowboy, Hank. Also a straight arrow librarian, Clark. She immediately falls into fantasies about the cowboy, day and night dreaming about a scorching affair with him. Problem is he is super good looking dumbass.
Cute and funny so far this is the best of the series.

Life in a romance novel

Viv thinks inheriting her aunt’s home across the country puts her in the middle of a romance novel. She arrives to find a cowboy taking take of the animals, shirtless. Her vision doesn’t quite go to plan. Especially when the cowboy doesn’t give her the time of day or when she falls through the front porch or when a stuffed shirt tells her she can’t change anything about the historic home. Nothing goes her way. But the friendship she finds with the stuffed shirt is fantastic. I enjoyed listening but sometimes Viv’s imagination gets really far away from her. Clark is a steadfast character and crumbles her fantasies but forms them into something new and better.
