Publisher's Summary

A hilarious, fast-paced space adventure from the author the Independent calls "the new Terry Pratchett".

Cal Carver is having a bad day. Imprisoned and forced to share a cell with a cannibalistic serial killer, Cal thinks things can't possibly get any worse.

He is wrong.

It's not until two-thirds of the human race is wiped out and Cal is abducted by aliens that his day really starts to go downhill.

Whisked across the galaxy, Cal is thrown into a team of some of the sector's most notorious villains and scumbags. Their mission should be simple enough, but as one screw-up leads to another, they find themselves in a frantic battle to save an entire alien civilization - and its god - from total annihilation.

Wheeeee!

Any additional comments?

This is just one of those stupid forgettable but fun books.

Basically, you know Guardians of the Galaxy? You know just those bits that are funny? Yep, that is this book pretty much. Does it make a compelling novel? Nah. But does it make me smile? Yeah.

That's this book, a smile. There are other comedic space science fiction books, they are probably better too, but this one? This one was short and funny and I will continue the series.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes Hard Luck Hank, Guardians of the Galaxy, Willful Child, or any other light hearted scifi.

It's Space Suicide Squad

Actually it's much better than that, but if you read it, you'll get the joke above. A smart aleck is abducted from Earth because he's mistaken for a crazy serial killer who is to be sent on a suicide mission with other irredeemables. Hijinks ensue. Actually it's like Farscape:SuicideSquad mashup. Well narrated with an excellent feel for the characters.

Fonking Terrific

A wonderfully hilarious, silly, and irreverent read... A quick moving story that will have you laughing on practically every page... I was slightly dubious, but got over that in about a second after I started reading this delightful story... Think Hitchhiker's meets Guardians of the Galaxy and you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect... If you're looking for something serious, deeply moving, or thought provoking then move along, nothing to see here;). If you want some solid entertainment that amuses while telling a tight story then grab this one fast... You'll thank me... Great characters and great narration only elevates... This is going to be a fantastic space series;)

Very Funny

Light hearted funny read. My kids and the clerk at the supermarket thought I was crazy when I would suddenly start laughing out loud for no discernable reason.

bit of satire, humor, engagement

very good performance, first person, satire, doesn't take itself too serious, but is engaging enough. yes, there are plenty of plot holes, but just shut up and enjoy the ride. looking forward to more in the series.

I wish audible would do the rest of these. Great character writing. The narrator is 1st class.

The most solid new work I've heard in ages

A team effort by newer author and narrator alike, Space Team is a light hearted, well paced romp. While many readers will recognize elements familiar to sci-fi here, most are offered up with a literary wink of mutual recognition one would expect from a seasoned pro.

Thron's performance is perfectly paced, well voiced, and pleasantly reminds one of James Marsters or Bronson Pinchot in terms of talent and enthusiasm.

highly recommended.

good escape

This was a fun, enjoyable book. It made me smile and it made me happy to listen to it. The narrator did an excellent job of portraying the characters. Sometimes a book is just a book and we enjoy it despite knowing that it doesn't aspire to win "novel of the year." It's nice to listen to something lighthearted in a time when the world seems particularly mean and crazy.

Recipe for Fun

Extremely entertaining and creative a la Guardians of the Galaxy with a dash of The Walking Dead. Perfect narration really kicked it up. Hard to believe there was a single narrator, who brought life to so many "fonken" characters.

Meh!

Struggled to finish this one. Perhaps it reads better on the page than in narration. The so called humorous quips of the main character start to grate early on and the author loves to flog a joke past its sell by date. Other characters were formulaic.

My First Ever Audiobook

I was unsure about listening to audiobooks. I've never really been able to get into reading. But I decided to give it a try.

Space Team was my first choice, I wanted to avoid books in a series but something about it appealed to me.

I'm so glad I took the dive and that this was my first audiobook. It's exceptionally good. The writing is vivid and expressive. The characters are hilarious and intriguing at the same time. My favourite easily being Mizette, though the others each have plenty of moments to shine.

The book itself has a very hitchhikers guide to the galaxy feel to the humour. Which is a strong positive for me.

Phil Thron, the narrator, deserves a major shout out also. He does an exceptional job. Each character was given a unique and identifiable voice, It was a pleasure to hear from start to finish.

I know, since this is my first book, that I have nothing to compare it to. But I don't care, for me this audiobook is well worth the recommendation.

Hailed as new Pratchett, hah dream on!

Misleading review lead me to buy this book. Waste of audible credit. It's slightly amusing but I didn't finish it. Plus once I found I could read the series on kindle unlimited for free I did its slightly more enjoyable to read than in audible form.
But a new Pratchett what was that reviewer thinking.

narrator ruins it(for me anyway)

What did you like most about Space Team?

Excellent character development by the author, it's Red-Dwarf meets Suicide Squad.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I found the voice very difficult to follow; I'm used to Brian Blessed and Stephen Fry so maybe I should be more forgiving.

Any additional comments?

I will be reading paper copies in future.

Fun times in space

This was a very entertaining listen. The story was a lot of fun. I found myself laughing out loud many times, which is never a good thing when you're traveling on a busy train.

i highly recommend “The Space Team”.

Bloody good, laugh out loud adventure with brilliant narration. I’ve been looking for an author in a similar vain to Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchit for quite some time and now I’ve found it here.
Daniel Inwood.
