The above is just a small example of how descriptive Callie James’ writing is when it comes to conjuring up creepy and eerie scenes that will have listeners wanting to turn the lights back on. I really enjoyed the third story “A night at the funfair” because it totally reminded me of one of my favorite “are you afraid of the dark” episodes” from the early 90s where a creepy clown who had seemingly otherworldly powers haunts a group of individuals in very imaginative ways! The narrator is perfect for this and does a great job creating a brooding atmosphere and also seamlessly changes character voices in a way that keeps listeners captivated.

I really enjoyed listening to these scary stories. It’s the kind of audiobook that’s easy to get into and great for when you want a quick thrill without committing to a long story. Some of the stories were genuinely creepy and caught me off guard, which I loved. I liked that each story was different, so I never got bored. The narrator did a great job bringing the stories to life too. If you’re into short, spooky tales that don’t drag on, this is a solid pick. I’m glad I gave it a try.
