About this listen

Hayley Chill descends even deeper into the dangerous political web of Washington, DC, in this “twisty, electrifying thriller” (Karin Slaughter, New York Times best-selling author) and sequel to the national best seller Deep State.

When a series of devastating cyber attacks rock the United States, Hayley Chill is tasked by the “deeper state” to track down their source. NSA analysts insist that Moscow is the culprit, but that accusation brings plenty of complications with Hayley directing the president as a double agent against the Russians. With increasing pressure on the president to steer him towards a devastating war, it’s up to Hayley to stop the mysterious computer hacker and prevent World War III - while also uncovering some shocking truths about her own life.

Magnificently crafted and perfectly timed, Savage Road “is a brilliantly plotted thriller with plenty of edge-of-the-seat moments, twists, and turns to satisfy the most ardent of fans” (Mystery & Suspense Magazine).

There's no chill in Haley Chill.

Didn't see the twist coming until it made my jaw drop. Should have been expecting something knowing Twisty Chris Hauty!

Smart political thriller

Smart series, smarter main character, but the smartest thing about this book is the narrator, by far.
Marin Ireland is the best audio narrator out there. She is the only reason I tried this series and I’m so glad I did.

More, please!

Hayley Chill is a fantastic character. Love the unexpected twists and turns Chris Hauty throws her way. Marin Ireland's narration is splendid. She even gets the WV accent mostly right!

...another 'crafty' thriller by Chris Hauty.

Audiobook Review - I love it when a book can throw me for a loop and Savage Road did exactly that just like its predecessor Deep State. For me, this makes for a refreshing reading experience. Savage Road was another great thriller by author Chris Hauty. It was full of lots of details and there were some fictional aspects sprinkled in to take it up a notch. I thought this book was going to end several times before it actually did, but Hauty kept throwing more and more at me and taking me for an even wilder ride than I expected. What’s interesting to me is that I don’t believe that this book was written for or against any specific side of the political spectrum. I went into it expecting lots of cliché conspiracy-level fiction but instead, I got a well written thriller with conspiracies and political tensions weaved in without being so loud and distracting that they take away from the story. I was pleasantly surprised...again. Another “crafty’ thriller by Chris Hauty and what I mean by crafty is this story is both well structured as a thriller and also a cleverly written commentary on politics, especially the obvious influence of the apparent desire for ‘power’. Haley Chill is a well-defined and effective protagonist, going up against several clear and slightly less effective antagonists…corrupt politicians and Russian spies. I should have expected the twist coming by Hauty, especially after his first book Deep State, but he made my jaw drop again and all I could do was shake my head in amazement. “Twisty Chris” is Hauty’s new nickname. Narrator Marin Ireland was excellent! Another outstanding thriller by Chris Hauty…he’s batting a thousand now with back-to-back successful thrillers.

Not Great

Narration was mediocre at best! Too much use of a thesaurus! Not a thriller! Writing was amateurish

Disappointing

Not that "thrilling" and not helped by a lackluster narrator. Sigh. Really wanted to love it.
