Sara Hershberger has no idea what’s coming. But she knows the next three months will decide her very future. And the decision will test her like nothing before.
Sara and Esther are leaving everything behind; not forever, but for the time of their Rumspringa, a time where Amish youth make choices that could forever change their lives. And for Sara, that pivotal moment happens when Kevin Abel, the striking son of the owner where they start work, first sets eyes on her.
Her lifelong friend enjoys her time too, but manages to maintain a safe distance, never blurring the lines between the Amish way of life and that of the outside.
But for Sara, it’s no longer so simple.
No one has ever made her feel this way about herself. Innocent lunches soon turn into something more. Weeks go by, and Esther notices that Sara seems to do nothing else but spend her time outside of work with Kevin. Sara tries to explain; he’s not only special, he makes her feel special.
And it’s working. Because for Kevin, it’s by design.
She keeps things proper—she hasn’t forgotten who she is or what’s right—but she’s growing more confused and unsure of who she wants to be. And Kevin isn’t helping.
For the first time, Sara can imagine not returning home. Esther doesn’t like it, and soon the wedge between them grows and Esther is forced to make some tough decisions of her own.
