Publisher's Summary

Two years ago, Sara's husband left for the gym one morning...and never came back. His car was found. He wasn't. Unbelievably, the police report said, "no foul play suspected." There were a few sightings over the following months, but little else.

Now, on the last day before summer break, her three children have gone missing from their schools, all at the same time.

And the note under her windshield wiper asks one foreboding question: Are you ready to play the game?

Nope

I tried. I really did. But the story line coupled with the awful narration was just too much. Perhaps with a different narrator I could’ve finished the story. She’s very staccato. As it is though, I got thru the middle of chapter 7 and then threw up my hands in disgust.

Your kids are missing and you don’t immediately call the police? You’re more concerned about the principals feelings, rather than freaking out that your children have been abducted?

Generally speaking the writing is like that of a middle school student trying to write like a “grown up”. As an example, who refers to their employer by the proper name.... with every reference? I mean EVERY reference. You don’t drive to “company name”, you drive to “work” or to “the office”. It’s just little things like that which made the story seem juvenile.

Bottom line, don’t bother with this one. Unless what I’ve said above is appealing to you.

Oh boy

This was hard for me to get through. I’m not sure if was the narrator or the story in general but it was not believable nor did it have much depth. Trying too hard or maybe not hard enough. The story would have been a little more relatable if the characters weren’t so immature or....kind of dumb. And the detectives! Painful. I was literally counting down the hours on my audible.

Worth free credit

To me the story was different then most I’ve heard so that was a plus. Although predictable I knew almost within the first couple chapters The Who and why. Liked the plot however predictable it certainly was. If I could guess it without trying anyone could. I don’t try to solve the books I listen to as I like to let it unravel. The reader can perform 2 mb 3 voice characters which really blew this listen. She could be good but needs to practice her male and other female voices. If she didn’t narrate who was speaking what lines you would think them all the same.

Like I said free credit would not pay for this one. And I can sit through just about any audio book I have a lot of drive time.

Eh

It was pretty predictable to me. Basically within the first few chapters of the kids going missing I figured out who took them, just didn't know why. Also, I feel like to much time was spent being in the main character's thoughts and not enough action. Overall the book was okay.

Ugh. Couldn’t even finish this one it was so awful

The story line sounded like it would be good. Maybe it was the narrator, but this was so bad, I didn’t even finish it.

Terrible story, poor reading

This book is poorly written, predictively and lame. The ‘performance’ does add to the predictability and kitschiness. Do not recommend it

This was even better than I expected. I loved the story and the characters. I cannot wait to either read or listen to the next book in the series. So far I have loved every book Ernie Lindsey has written. My friends you need to start reading some of these independent authors. Finding this these hidden gems of the book world has truly changed my life.

How far will a mother go for her children?

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes I enjoyed this book. It made boring motorway driving much more interesting.

Any additional comments?

This was an enjoyable book, which starts with a normal single mum of 2. Her husband has previously vanished years earlier and she has given up hope of finding him.
She has a great job as an executive working for a computer games company and while she is at work, her children are kidnapped.
The kidnappers made certain demands of her to play a 'game' and this book follows the story of what she goes through to try to get her children back. She stops at nothing to get them back and finds an inner strength she did not know that she had. She finds out what happened to her husband in the process.
It is a book which was heart breaking in places, as I am a mother myself. I could feel her pain. It is true, that given the option, you would put yourself in danger at the prospect of finding your children.
