Publisher's summary

Kristi Hartinger has come to terms with her life as a single, 30-something woman. She was in love...once. But following her boyfriend’s tragic death, no one else could capture her heart. And nothing else could fill that void, though the serenity of the ocean came close.

Two years ago, Kristi left the craziness of her Wall Street career behind and embraced a simpler life on her family’s private island off the coast of Maine. As a resident of the small beach community, she anticipates a quiet future - until she comes face-to-face with her past.

Ace Samson is dead, or so the world believes. As a member of a secret organization known as the guardians, he was forced to fake his death years ago, leaving everything behind when he became an agent. So when he is selected to offer a potential new recruit a job with the organization, Ace braces himself: for the first time in more than a decade, he must face the woman he loved - and left.

Kristi’s world is rocked by Ace’s sudden reappearance, and she’s soon drawn into his world of danger and cover-up. But when Kristi herself becomes a target, Ace will do whatever it takes to protect the only woman he has ever loved.

annoying narration

Great story! The narrator has a nice voice but she does a super lame accent that sounds like a cross between Southern and a speech handicap for the heroine, Kristy,, that is really annoying! Thankfully, it is inconsistent but poor Kristy isn't able to annunciate her Rs at the end of a word- like generat-ah or clam chowd-ah. It makes the poor girl sound like an idiot. I don't think anyone in the world actually talks like this.

Love this series

I'm living this series. It's enough love and mystery for me. This was the first one that I listened to and I found me listening even more than I was reading

3rd in series is lacking

This is the 3rd novel in The Guardians series. It was hard to stomach with the accents, lack of action, and the main character’s stupid decisions. Not horrible, but after first 2 in series I expected more. Starting the 4th in series now.

Great story!—-. Only fair narration

I love reading this author’s books. But the narrator’s Brooklyn accent was terrible, not in character—and distracting!

OK story, distacting narration

The narrator slips in and out of a bad southern accent that sometimes sounds like a bad New Yorker accent which is extremely distracting. The story is typical of abramson--simple and predictable but enjoyable.

Not the author’s best work.

I usually love books by Tracy Abramson. This one drove me nuts. At first I thought it was a narrator who seemed to alike back and forth from a weak New England accent to a near southern drawl. Then I decided I could no longer handle a super whiny female lead who had to repeat everything the male lead said in a question. She had weak damsel in distress with an attempt at seeming strong. But just a pain in the neck who cried a lot. Nope. Returning it because it is so annoying.
