Inspired by the Columbine high school killings, his fantasy to make people "take notice" had been brewing for more than a year. By the time his sword-slashing spree had ended, 16-year-old Jacques Pretorius was dead and three others were brutally injured.
In the aftermath of what was described as “the most barbaric act of schoolboy violence in South African history” the country was left reeling. How does an ordinary boy from a "normal" family become a brutal killer overnight? Was Morné under the influence of a satanic cult? A protégée of mastermind Devilsdorp killer, Cecilia Steyn? Great listen!
Very informative and thorough research was done. Easy to listen to, great narration done by Nicole Engelbrecht. This is just such a heartbreaking story and I feel so very sad for the families that endured so much pain (and still is). Makes me worry about support systems at schools and at home for these kids.

Interesting Listen by my favorite podcaster
having been a fan of TCSA for a while (i started listening way back in 2020), i expected nothing less than a well researched and relevant account from Nicole. i didnt pay much attention to this case at the time, i thought harmse was just a disturbed individual who wanted too look cool in front of friends but the background info and his ties to cecelia steyn left me with a chill up my spine. i was shocked to learn the judge had given such a lenient sentence, i was also shocked to learn that he'd been given parole. it would have been interesting to learn his side or his parents but nonetheless its a great book. i like the in depth look at columbine and how it was related to Harmse. im a big fan of Nicole and will continue to support her.
