Great for nostalgia.

If my kids were still young, this book would be an awesome bedtime listening ritual. First off, you can NEVER go wrong with a Harmon Cooper book, and I will listen to anything Travis Baldree narrates (Audible MVP 2020 in my opinion), so when the two hooked up to put out an audiobook, I preordered it immediately. This is a story about a dad and his two boys as they try to make a way for themselves in a new home. The LitRPG elements are EXTREMELY light. In fact if it wasn’t for the characters being NPC’s, they wouldn’t need to exist at all, but the way it’s put together is very pleasing and shouldn’t turn you off to this book. There are almost no stats in comparison to crunchy LitRPG novels. This is a YA novel with zero cringy teenage romance scenarios. They’re kids adventuring an island over summer break with their dad. That being said, it’s a story that a lot of adults would love. I’m 40 and really enjoyed this. It brought a lot of nostalgia from memories of my brothers and I riding our bikes for miles to buy slush puppies, going on adventures down the railroad tracks, etc. Perfect book for car trips with your family, or if you just feel like taking a trip down memory lane. It was fun. Please continue this series Harmon. And Thank You for this story!

Awesome

Amazing book. Not what I was expecting from him, but addictively entertaining. Keeping up with the cats was a nice mental gymnastics exercise.

I could’ve used a little more action, but very good

I thought this was a well written, well thought out story. I felt a lot like how I did in my childhood, but also was just entertained by the whole thing. This is not, however, a litrpg in the normal sense. There are stats, but besides that and a few small things, not a whole lot of a sense of progression. Besides that though I thought it was great! Worth the credit if you have one to spare.

a hidden gem

I, not being a cat lover, was not actually looking forward to this book, but being a fan of Harmon Cooper's work I decided to give it a try and oddly enough I love it, the mystery, the drama, the magic, and the crazy random references to the other books in his universe made this a book I binged in 2 days. I am anxiously awaiting the second installment because Damn it there are still so many mysteries unsolved.

Oh my!

Harmon really knocked this story outta the park. I loved it and hated for it to end but now I’m excited for more in the future. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!

Warm hearted, well imagined story

This is a wonderfully imagined world brought to life by the great and always entertaining Travis Baldree. I felt like I was on an adventure with the brothers, reminding me why I miss my sibling and the best times of childhood. Plus cats.
