Miles Mercer and his coworkers have just lost their jobs aboard a passenger ship when somebody comes up with an idea that sounds almost reasonable after enough drinks: buy an old ship, turn it into a traveling restaurant, and take good food to the people stuck eating bad food at stations, refineries, and frontier settlements.

The ship they can afford is The Wayward—an ugly, patched-up old hauler with questionable paperwork, ancient machinery, a surprisingly enormous galley, and considerably more history than anyone mentioned during the sale.

At first, Miles and his crew have ordinary problems. Repairs. Permits. Menus. Plumbing. Health inspections. A cleaning robot with an unsettling habit of calling Miles “Captain.”

Then they discover what’s underneath the paint.

Fifty years ago, the legendary Space DAWGs disappeared, leaving behind stories so outrageous that nobody can agree which ones were true. Now Miles and his thoroughly unheroic crew find themselves flying a ship with a connection to those legends—and attracting exactly the sort of attention they never wanted.

Soon, a catering business becomes an adventure involving forgotten technology, missing people, suspicious authorities, old mysteries, and a reputation that grows considerably faster than Miles can deny it.

Because the galaxy remembers the Space DAWGs.

And apparently, it thinks they’re back.

The Space DAWGs is a humorous science-fiction adventure about an ordinary crew, an extraordinary old ship, accidental heroism, found family, and the dangerous difference between what really happened and the stories people tell afterward.
